AboutRarely gets to program during work hours anymore but still gets glad when it happens. Codes for fun in my spare time.

SkillsPython, js, frontend markup, a little Perl and some this and that through the years like PHP, ASP, VB etc. Basic on C64 if it counts? :) Amos on Amiga 500?

@psudo The really evil part is delivering exactly what was ordered - not what was intended :)
-
@maximizer Tried pea soup? ;)
A few notes though:
- recoil. You will put the same force on yourself as on the target. You need some sort of anchoring.
- pressure. I'd say it's unlikely that the tissue of your body could sustain the pressure buildup that would be required. -
It does feel slightly like the 90's all over again with the browsers and their little quirks.
-
I'm sometimes the client and sometimes the dev. I try to learn so I can write better specs next time I'm the client. If they provide annual income then you have had them as a client for long enough for them to learn and improve.
-
I love how people usually will go "this company is soo stupid" and circulate something like this as "proof" for years - while here people will provide a plausible explanation right away.
Devs ftw. -
Somehow I think "you are priority number zero" wouldn't really sound right :)
-
@maximizer we actually use a lot less than our full strength. If we could access the strength that's obvious when we get a cramp we'd be able to deadlift impressive amounts :) The first gains you make with weights is usually only activating the nervous system to be able to actively control more of your full strength.

I've found that having someone to blame is part of why people use proprietary software or use external devs :) Sorry to hear about your situation though! Being very clear about what you do (and don't) is the best way I've found. "I'll deliver feature Z on date A, and when you deploy it you will see the changes in connected features X and Y that you surely have planned when ordering this development"

@vinaysshenoy I do feel that the indentation is the worst part of Python - and also when switching between languages. In the beginning lack of weird syntax felt like a relief. And since I'm sloppy with indentation when there's regular syntax it felt like a bonus. But in the long run it is a bit weird when switching between js/Perl/Python

It's a very unreasonable request for sure :) @deusprogrammer But it bothers me that every time we get faster computers we add overhead in OS and programs that renders the speed gains null and void. A raspberry Pi with assembler OS and programs would feel like frikkin supercomputer..
-
I hate being the only dev at work. After almost a decade I still have to help coworkers attaching files, finding out how to start MS Office etc. And I have no dev colleagues to learn from. Feeling stuck.
-
We all learn quickly and in a few weeks it will all be routine. But don't be shy to use the "I'm new - explain it to me" card. Better to pretend to know less than more than you actually know. It's much more painful to have to confess after a month that you didn't understand something.
Remember. We are not hired because of the things we know as much as for being used to learn. -
Impressive. Is it some kind of art installation project using that many files? :)

I wanted to become an astronaut but as an adult I realize I really only wanted to mess around in zero G and see earth from space. I might just live long enough to see prices fall to the point that I can have a go.
-
I got praise for finding out how to start Outlook on a new computer today :)
-
Stick it in a USB cabinet and hot glue it to the back of the laptop screen - there I fixed it.
-
If it's an app for chatting with the staff or any such function tied to the actual opening hours fine - otherwise they are just as backwards as it seems :)

She told the soldering iron she's Chuck Norris and now it doesn't dare burn her for fear she might actually be right.
-
Warning. Tried that when I was little and wanted a RC car instead of wire remote car. It _might_ not work :)
But have to say those wireless ones are ugly - looks like they didn't even bother redesigning when they got rid of the cords. -
I'm too perplexed by the fact that every mailbox getting 1 ( _one_ ) mail was a problem. I know it was a while ago, but even then I would get loads every day. They should be glad since they got an excellent case for asking their bosses for funding of a better server :)

The asymmetrical setup hurts my brain. And the bsod hurts my stress levels :)

I fooled around a bit but it's hard to feel satisfied with an avatar that looks nothing like me at all. So this _could_ be me even if it's a stretch.
-
I've understood that it happens in India and some other places that programmers don't learn proper english and only use their native tongue. Bound to have a bad time I'd say.
-
I've worked at a state body specialized in mainly archaeology that was suddenly moved from the capital to an island where a lot of military was becoming unemployed. But even with that insanity we got proper notice...
-
I don't actually like avatars. We judge peoples appearance either we want to or not and that is why I have been so glad that the stream don't even show author name. Content is everything in the stream.
But as for being an avatar system I do like it a lot. And community created "parts" for the avatar would be great. -
As stated multiple IE is good for testing on local machine if you don't have any fancy cloud tools testing for mutiple browsers and platforms.
-
Oh my! But if they like ugly hacks why don't they wrap the whole thing in a extra layer that keeps the notification for a little bit and only send it if there is no following message about monitoring acting up?

He got 5 apples.
He _had_ (already) eaten 3 (out of the ones he had before he got 5 extra).
How many left: At least 5. -
Well if the rant is accurate they won't last long without you so you should be safe.
