Exploding battery?

@KyleSoBold The hash symbol is commonly used (in the UK at least) as a short hand for number.
And given that the English invented English, then we are automatically right in every English language argument ever. #jussayin -

Actually, no worries 🙃

So bad they're good

@SirPally You'll hate wordpress then. Any self respecting developer should. It's a steaming pile of crap.
The most commonly used features in wordpress can be bunged together on a framework within a couple of days, so why subject yourself to the horror that is wordpress? -

@Lasse You're entitled to your opinion, which I am sure is shared by others, as much as those of us disagreeing are entitled to ours. No need to get whiny about it.
One thing worth considering about your stance is that it doesn't have a logical end. If there's no point learning Linux because you may never use it, is there any point learning any other subject that you may not use?
In my opinion, a primary responsibility of education is to introduce students to new ideas. Not introducing a student to Linux would be depriving them of a potential opportunity. -
@Lasse WTF computer science != development. CS students need to learn operating systems even if they ultimately only work with it in an abstracted way.
That said, most developers will use Linux at some point. Even in gaming, a predominately Windows arena, Linux is becoming an increasing requirement. -
@Lasse Simply not true. The vast majority of development happens on the web, and the vast majority of web servers run Linux. That aside, many embedded devices run some for of Linux. Many mobile phones run Linux (Android). Microsoft is not the whole world!
-
@Lasse good for you
Meanwhile, in the real world, students should be learning the skills commonly desired by employers. -
Cont..
Whilst working 12 hours I still made time for personal projects, but I relegated them to the weekends. It wasnt that bad either. It meant that by the end of the week I had already fleshed out the next part if my project in my head. I could breeze through for a good 6 to 8 hours and spend the rest if the weekend on social activities. -
If the job is completely outside of your personal plan, maybe you should consider if it is really where you want to be.
If you decide that ultimately you can still get where you need to get whilst working this job, then just embrace it, flaws and all, and take as much away from the experience as you can.
It's also a good idea to start making time for your own personal development. I know this can be difficult (I used to work 12 hour days), but even finding a regular 30mins will ensure your skills don't become stale. You will need to make sacrifices as a good work life balance is difficult to achieve, but just work at it and you'll find a routine that works for you. -
IntelliJ is awesome!! Eclipse is great, but sooo fugly.
-
@philcr No worries dude. No offence was taken. Apologies I came if that way. The Windows rage has subsided now 😆
-
@Dacexi Not my computer, so I can't really.
-
@PiranhaGeorge Haha I'm even talking to myself now. That's how crazy M$ makes me!
-
@PiranhaGeorge Arghhh I just want to bitch slap Bill Gates atm. How long does it take to do an update.
-
@philcr Yes I would. I run Linux on all my own machines and I update them regularly. Who the @$#* do M$ think they are to force me to update a computer when I just want to go home!!!!!!

Breaking production and having to deal with backlash. No other experience gives a developer true respect for the production environment.

Depending on the question, it can show the employer is not doing their homework, or they don't understand the role they are interviewing for. These can be warning signs that the company is to be avoided. Remember, interviews go both ways.
-
You'll remember when you get the bug report.
-
@Moicanos Oh, that's a big problem then.
-
@Letmecode I find it hard to believe anyone would be stupid enough to store unhashed passwords in their application.
-
@Letmecode I'm assuming the OP stores them in a password manager like lastpass.
-
@ardinent If they want to rent space in a department store or supermarket they use SaaS.
-
@ardinent If someone wants a lemonade stand they can use Amazon or ebay.
-
@ardinent eCommerce on a small budget! Never! It's a recipe for disaster.
-
@ardinent We do custom stuff more often than the smaller stuff. We charge by the hour for everything. Most things are cheaper to add to a framework than to deal with Wordpress and its eccentricities.

Never understood slapping a screenshot in a word document, but it seems quite common.
