I've done the exact same thing last year. The project I was handed was from 2008 (when the company first started), fairly large but really well written. Main PITA was updating the graphics library calls since the graphics library went through several large architectural changes. Still, since the code was written very well, I could manage to do this in 2 days. I hope you're as lucky as me ! All the best !
-
I hate it too. It's never "enough" for clients. They'll never be satisfied or appreciate the hard work that went into optimising their page. I switched teams to do pure server infrastructure and never been happier since.
-
I don't get it. What ?
-
@Root that wears off by slightest of rain or light
-
How do you become good at Source engine modding ? I want to learn how to implement custom features such as time portals as done in Portal Reloaded or the tag gun from Aperture tag
-
@C0D4 this isn't uncommon in very small companies / startups where HR isn't just one role but is an umbrella for legal, financial and HR duties
-
I thought I'll get to see a part 2 on your profile. First time I'm disappointed on devRant
-
This probably is OS dependent although I'm not too sure. Also, even if it was possible on both android and iOS, they'd rather want you to pay for the background playback rather than include it on the free account
-
@LotsOfCaffeine with semver, we can get 420 or 69 though which arguably has higher meme potential ?
-
I hope she got her vim setup correctly at least ?
-
I like to use qutebrowser daily (vim keybindings ftw) but incase some sites don't render correctly, I also have Firefox installed

@sariel sadly I'm not independent contractor ;(
-
@electrineer lmao. This is actually genius
-
@Lucky-Loek this makes me think we work at same company now. Holy shit is that accurate
-
@Oktokolo my thoughts exactly
-
@electrineer Thanks a lot for suggestion ! I didn't know this existed. Will check license and see if it works for the clients. I honestly didn't think a FOSS antivirus would exist, glad I'm wrong
-
@JsonBoa I will try. I don't think my manager will be courageous enough to tell these clients that honestly but here's hoping
-
@sariel yeah I immediately tried to that and then they said they don't have a budget for that and I have to "think out of the box" and do it without anything extra. This whole situation is amazingly stupid. I'll try to explain the situation to my manager once and if it isn't improving, I'm getting the fuck out of here.
-
Might be worth switching to another browser. I had similar reasons for switching to Brave initially but now I use qutebrowser and occasionally firefox
-
This probably just comes from your GUI updater. Either completely remove your GUI package manager or configure it to look for updates once a week or so. Also, try to switch to a non-rolling release distro to receive less updates in thr first place

Part of the job requires you to build a food transmission protocol to deliver fresh, unmodified, robust food to every employee's house. The expected solution must use blockchain for ordering and AI for order scheduling
-
@Crost "if it pays enough, i don't care much" attitude
-
Why is this not the problem style of hacking competitions like PicoCTF lol. It's SUUPER interesting For real though, good luck fighting with undocumented Java code.
-
@nitnip Yeah, I think I'm overthinking too. Had he not brought up the "generation" thing, I think I would've been fine but now I'm in a bit of existential crisis. Hope next 8 weeks go well
-
Lol. This is hilariously bad. Any guesses on how many of those 200k lines of code are actually "include"s ?
-
Sorry for being a little off-topic. How do you track your pension funds' investment ? I kinda never bother with this stuff because I'm usually happy with whatever my company hooks me up with -- now that you mention it, I'm curious

Loads almost equally or even slightly faster on my Linux machine with 5400RPM HDD

It seems dutiful to come here and ++ lol
