@irene lol. Yeah it’s awful :) I’m finishing up my degree still so I took the first job that would hire me so I could start working in the field. It has been great for learning purposes but I’m worked way beyond the scope of the position and I’m way underpaid. I’m actively looking for something new though so i can stop complaint so much lol
-
@irene on DevRant or at my job?? Because I’m trying to get a new job lol
-
@Tawzer normally I wouldn’t have been super upset but this is the second fucking time I’ve been worked beyond my capacity (I’m an entry level IT generalist), and gotten in trouble about it. I’ve been exhausted about my job and this just broke me down far enough that it finally came out as ugly crying in a parking lot.
I took today off as a mental health day and I forwarded the email to my supervisor to handle because I needed a higher up to explain that I did everything I was supposed to. Thankfully he agreed that was the best thing to do and he went and spoke with fiscal director about it.
I’m in a much better place today and i can recognize that I overreacted, I think I was just so done at that point that I couldn’t handle it anymore. Tomorrow I’m meeting with a senior coworker who I trust and we’re going to talk about how to handle it without freaking out lol
Thank you all for your comments though -

Basically I implemented a new asset management system for my company and have built it and the processes from the ground up. I’ve been PM, written policy, and helped set up servers.
I sent out an email to our asset managers to remind them of the upcoming deadline to have things put into the system and assigned to people and in it I said that per our fiscal unit we would be doing yearly inventory. We made that decision in December and though we didn’t write that policy (that would be up to fiscal, not me) it was generally accepted that that’s what we’d be doing.
Our fiscal director responded to the email where she had hi-lighted the line that said per fiscal we’ll be doing inventory yearly and she said “I’m confused about where this is coming from??? In the future you need to run all communications about this past fiscal because we own this process, not you. You don’t get to make these decisions.” -
Have you been evaluated for depression? I have it and when it starts getting bad I have the same experiences as you. There are basically a couple of types of depression. Situational depression, which would go away if your situation changed (like if you got a raise, moved to a different city or whatever). Then there’s good old fashion depression depression which tricks you into thinking it will go away if your situation changes but when you change your situation you’re still unhappy.
I have the latter one and I can’t work, speak, code, go to school, watch tv, or pretty much anything else when it’s bad.
It’s worth it to see a medical professional if you think this may be an issue. -
@jthm yuuuup

@suprano reddit is linked in my profile, I don’t use any others
-
@Chrupiter it can suggest hentai sites, sex toys, and ads from sites like castle and lovers selling porn dvds. In this case it was hentai
-
@suprano yes I am! Contact me any time :)

@PonySlaystation it’s such a dumb issue to have happened lol

@ALivingMemory Yeah I mean my main question is like... I’ve never done anything with hardware so I’m not certain what prior knowledge I’d need but I think that’s a question for google lol
-
@ALivingMemory yeah I was just trying to determine whether it’s useful. I don’t have any interest in hardware but it’s a free cert...
-
@ALivingMemory right I totally understand and am perplexed as well, however as I said in my current job there’s no use learning HP or something since we just don’t use it. I’d much rather do MS trainings lol
-
@ALivingMemory I think the idea is that if you work in a place where they only use XYZ computers you can be the point of contact. I happen to work where we only use Dell and MS Surface.

@Condor we want the ability to share passwords with certain users but not all users. The IT team manages software vendors but individual teams actually pay for the stuff so we need some way to share passwords so that when we update them every six months we don’t get helpdesk tickets about it. Also, we currently have password safe that all users have access to but since the UI is straight out of WinXP a lot of our users refuse to use it (they can be babies). I regularly steal sticky notes with passwords on them off of people’s computers.
We just need more security. -
@jvillavi I already know it but we really don’t use python at my job
-
@J-2FA @Torbuntu I know css grid and flex box but was asked specifically to use bootstrap for a class I’m taking. Frustrating but what are you gonna do 🤷♀️
-
@dr-ant thank you :) I’m trying to get over imposter syndrome and just be confident in my abilities. I’m glad I at least have some good experience on my resume now :)
-
Update for anybody interested:
Putting in my two weeks on Monday, going to live off of savings until I get a job.
Lord help me. 💀 -
@nikmanG it loses you points in the class I took as well, which is why I went back and rewrote everything. I’m considering posting the before and afters on github just for a laugh 😂
-
@DjSall that is my biggest pet peeve. I worked on a group project in college last year and i had to go back and rewrite all of the css and a ton of the HTML because one guy told the group that it was more efficient to do style tags because you have to have an individual css file for each page :/ he also gave classes to EVERYTHING as in <footer class=“footer”> and <p class=“paragraph”> for NO REASON.

Uh thx for the 41 additional notifications

This is an exhibit at Living Computer Museum in Seattle. In front of the camera was a bucket with objects such as a rubber duck, a picture of a cat, etc. I’m not sure why exactly it wasn’t trained to see people, but it didn’t recognize faces either. I think the purpose was to show how visualization can work with objects specifically. For the record it also thought my phone was a playing card.

@dr-ant I’m looking for a new job. The director of my dept is “reorganizing” meaning that she has already begun the process of firing my supervisor, the problem is that the director herself doesn’t manage, which means everyone just does whatever they want and it leads to this type of situation
-
@C0D4 I think the fact that they’re taking me off of it is the thing I’m most upset about. I had it done the day after it was assigned to me and it could have been reviewed and the problem could have been solved right then, and I could have jumped in and fixed it.
I’m low level here, so this was a big deal for me to be asked to do this for the director, and not only that, she /requested me/. I feel like garbage lol -
Ok I’m not trying to be /that person/ but is that keyboard blue or blackish grey?
