Anybody in lead positions, have you had much success with work term / intern students? I’m considering offering 2 positions for students at my local college to get a couple helping hands and help these people out.

Feeling overworked and underpaid, as my skill set improves I find myself less and less willing to do actual work, I consider my payscale far to low for my ability and as such I work far less than I probably should. My partner is doing well though, I guess that’s what I get for working with a start up.

Here’s hoping I can land a new job soon with that chunky pay raise I deserve.

On a positive note, I got pre-approved for a mortgage today so that might mean I can move into an actual home instead of this land lord bullshit.

Dear project managers.

Go fuck yourselves, stop hindering me in my ability to do my job. My job is to get the job done, I know exactly what exists where. If I request something, fucking get me it you useless cunts.

God I’m having the hardest time focusing on my task, it just seems so inconsequential compared to the shit going on in the world.

Here in my own country we’ve got issues with the government and their desperate grabs at power, citizens rights being trampled all over as if they mean nothing.

Of course the conflict in Ukraine I can’t peel my eyes away from the Reddit world news feed.

The explosive inflation worrying about the cost of food fuel and rent.
Diesels not cheap, and the electric company wants to spike up the price of already over priced electricity by 10%.

I’ve got a trip coming up which I’m thankful for but it’s expensive and money isn’t getting any easier to come by.

I’m genuinely worried about what the WEF is attempting to accomplish and the amount of power they hold over the western world.

And with all that in my mind…. The work in front of me of updating this stupid game to modern standard and refactoring it to actually make sense and be maintainable… just seems so fucking pointless.

Sweet lord jesus I fucking hate React! I hate whatever those idiots at facebook or whoever decided to change how everything works 15 fucking times in the span of 4 versions. For fuck sakes, the errors are shit. The documentation is shit, the answers to questions are useless!

Why the hell is JS so terrible, and why do so many people resort to using is as a back end. So many packages, so many outdated dependencies. My coworkers and friends have heard me rant about my constant frustration with this terrible setup.

I understand the need for dynamic html but why have we bastardized this language to the extent we have.

Keep your projects up to date, it saves people a lot of trouble in the future.

I have some how managed to put my self in a Software Architect role with a salary of a Junior developer, My team, who are even more junior as a swath of fresh grads are looking up to me to design this project. I am doubting my abilities and am worried I am going to under deliver, how am I ever going to learn this. Stressed.

What’s stopping you from switching to Linux?

I’ve recently switched to Manjaro, with a copy of windows on another drive for games that I can’t play with Proton, but in large part everything I do works so well on Linux, and I get to avoid the forced updates and other Microsoft non sense that comes with it.

Joined a startup, pretty happy with the company over-all so far truthfully. Secured a large project yesterday with higher billables so job security wise things are good. However... The project I've been working on is a mix of a Spring boot webapp and a game. Two separate applications that interact with each other.

Two teams. A home team, and an away team, plus.... 2 "AI's" to play against... Well.... whoever designed this "AI" designed it so they can only ever play as the away team. Why... every function, every method, every bit of logic is coded around what "Half" of the inning it is.... Now I had the bright idea of picking up the hardest task on the ticket list, of making these AI's be able to play as the home team.

WHAT A TASK, and to make things worse. Instead of using some kind of proper inheritance with actual structure, we have TWO COPY AND PASTED AIs where the other has more hard-coded team sided logic that needs to ALSO be adapted.
