@iiii this probably seems to be the answer. My knowledge on how the numbers are actually stored on disk is somewhat flaky in this matter.
-
@IntrusionCM You con't have collisions. Hexatrigesimal is not a UUID it is a number system with a base of 36 digits instead of 10. Every number is has exactly one higher and one lower neighbor and can be translated into exactly one number in a different base system.

Where on my meeting earlier? I have to admit I also like to do small talk and connect emotionally with my coworkers/clients. I understand that not everybody likes it though.
-
Who is not tired of any arrogant people? arrogant Managers, CEOs, customers, ...

I had similar issues with AWS before, when you ask nicely they drop the charges.
What I did to prevent idiot-me from racking up bills, was creating my personal AWS Organization and then putting policies in place that don't allow expensive resource to be spun up. -
Why not just own it. Like: "Funny, this burp had more substance than, the stuff the Boss is blabbering about."
-
I would add try to find mentors. Once I found one my career skyrocketed. That is also easier if you are in office. WFH is great if you know what and how to do your job. But early on in your career it would have killed me, because the face-to-face interaction was super helpful.

I try to avoid buying from amazon when possible. But yes the are offering good services. Earlier I tried buying directly from the retailers website, but it didn't work, so I had to buy it from amazon. And a lot of times buying from somewhere else is a little more expensive.
-
@ecmascript So they can avoid an uncomfortable conversation and don't give @Katakompe the raise he deserves.
-
Somehow I have the feeling this pattern will continue and they hope you just forget about it.
-
In case you get laid off, I recommend setting up a way to communicate this shitty company behaviour to the new hire.
-
Funny that is my idea, too. I started my side-company 3 years ago and finally get around to get it moving. Still having my full time job, though.
-
@PaperTrail There is a huge value in complimenting your strengths with your partners. But yes this sounds a little painful; good opportunity to build up your patience, though.
-
@devRancid I get this with $ npm help npm but man npm returns No manual entry for npm.
-
If I would comply, I create profiles using the company E-mail, and making sure the passwords are not stored in company stuff, so when I leave the company I can "off-board" properly and delete them again.
-
I worked for two startups and both times the plan was just to get bought. I think it is better to actually start a business that provides value. (The former ones, didn't really)

Thoughts and prayers to the victims in Berlin, nothing happened but all victims there.
-
The guys in suits are from finance the ones in jeans/t-shirt are IT. Ask the suits what they are doing in their job, then tell them you automated something like that somewhere else.
-
I had so many dreams about fixing stuff, just to wake up in the morning an realize: No, we can't put strawberry jam on the loadbalancer to filter out sticky sessions.
-
You build something that you think is cool. That is what counts! You probably also learned a lot on the way about it as well. Do (legal, and morally right) things that make you happy, not other people. Also surround yourself with people that pull you up and not bring you down, you already identified the latter as it sounds like.
-
I recommend to write all of this down in something like a blog (not in devrant posts). This way you can use it in interviews or talks or stuff and also remember what you did how in the future.
-
When it comes up with things like new chemical elements and how to synthesize them, it's getting interesting. So far, its just spooning around in the same soup. That being said, in a few years it waill probably also available to anybody, like printing presses, cars, computers, cloud, etc. before.
-
I honestly feel a little bad for the boss. Sounds like he ended in a situation he had no idea how to handle. Still an asshole though and not a excuse to flip out on staff and customers.
-
I trying PS on Linux to make PS-Session to my windows machine. But that is the only use-case I can see. I like PS better than bash, though. But it's simply not the right tool on Linux.
-
@ajinxs I am more a DevOps engineer, so my take on security is mostly cloud permissions and making sure traffic is encrypted and following the allowed paths. Naomi Buckwalter made a course about CyberSecurity: https://linkedin.com/learning/...

That reminds me of the time, when I dropped a plate of food and started looking for CTRL+Z buttons around me.
-
I am always tempted to take advantage of stupid Management, by getting very active on my side-projects. That being said @codingTripledad s nick suggests there are other forces at play preventing action on non-family side-projects.
-
@Grumm I am amazed how someone is working 7 years on a system and still doesn't know a lot of it. Granted there can be lot of legit reasons: They got a lot of other responsibilities as well. The system is really complex like an OS, etc. But still, 7 years?

I don't write documentation. I just write python.
