Can't be chivalrous and be rich. Oracle has open sourced Java just because it has too many stakes in it. Windows has office for Mac and iPad just because it gets money through Office 365 subscription. Imagining no money is blissful but it's a long way in the future. Until AI takes over.

@GigaMick I did that with Facebook and Whatsapp. I never got into Insta or Snapchat and I thought of people getting addicted as fools. But it is really a psychological issue if you get addicted to it. Yesterday, I decided to delete YouTube, I did that. But, while having dinner my mind was agitated and didn't know what to do. I reinstalled it. Watched John Oliver, Seth Meyer etc. Deleted and went to sleep. I didn't give it a thought. Today morning, I didn't do that, I felt agitated all long before going to office. It was annoying. It's a real issue. I feel I lose out on important stuff if I stop watching stuff like science videos, politics etc. People must feel they will give lose out power if they delete FB and social media like that. I felt the same when I stopped FB a couple of years ago that nobody will ever know me. Social media is a shortcut to tell people your story by skipping hard part of socialising. Youtube is shortcut to summaries by skipping analysing the stuff yourself.

@linuxxx I can't first begin to learn all the quirks, understand and to get in. It's tiresome. Like in my case, if you'd tell me when I first started out that I'd had to type some vi .bashrc to change setting. I'd freak out. I started out Linux mint just because it was cool and made me feel like a hacker when I typed ls and cd to navigate.

I live in a shitty hostel with no Ethernet!(Arch installation with WiFi was pain in the arse) I'm trying to go off grid as soon as possible. Not like I am on a grid, I'm from India.

Do you know #protonmail? It's great. Does what I need in a mail. You don't need a curated mail If you don't put you email wherever you see a form. Or learn to create aliases.

@linuxxx I do agree with the last paragraph though. I'd prefer open source vetted software. So go #Signal (OpenWhisperSystems) and down with #Whatsapp and #facebook. They are evil. I don't know why I trust Google. Maybe because their motto is #dontbeevil? 🙃😜
