@CaptainRant as a student at a pretty good uni and self-taught dev, I would never agree with your dean. For me, it sounds more like a piss poor excuse for teaching a lot of useless shit and old tech. I know many people who your dean would probably call amateurs that are much better than 90% of people who finish their bachelors...

@meaningfullife I would say that they are overpriced when you are buying a new one, and I would not recommend getting it new. But used onces usually offer great price to performance and quality ratio. The build quality is great, performance is good, and the keyboard is one of the best on the market. I bought mine T480 3 months ago, and it's amazing. Much better than anything wlse I had in similar price

If you want to buy it now, go for a used Thinkpad, for the price you should be able to hunt down something like T480, or save up more for something new

@heyheni as much as I like standing desks, it has already been proven multiple times that they are not better. Yeah, if you switch your positions they are, but I've seen far too many people simply standing whole day, which is as bad as sitting.

I don't run and don't lift. But I train ballroom, latin and rock'n'roll dance for total of like 5 hours a week. I'm pretty skinny (178cm beight, 65KG), but I feel good in my skin and I don't feel like I need more excersise.

@DubbaThony my first internship, first time working with PHP(before that I barely knew how to connect to DB). First tried VS Code, but shit, I don't think anything can match PHP Storm. And the Symfony plugin is a gift from programming gods.

@thinkbonobo if you are frontend, node or python dev, you can always use Linux. I'm not saying that Macs are bad, but I think that at this budget it's better to go for something more powerful than Mac unless he needs to use XCode.
