Adding a sleep(1) to fast processes.
We literally had users spamming because "something wasn't doing anything" -
@retoor That's due to stupid tiers on Google/Apple Pay API.
They program tier 1 ten apples, tier 2 hundred apples
In some countries, the tiers make sense, in others they don't. -
Welcome to "on call service"! Where you should be the expert of all areas.
With time, you will learn how to do the minimal necessary for the ticket being able to be treated on business hours -
@TrevorTheRat I like the chatGPT/deep ai
But I use as it was designed: as a language model.
I use him to easily translate or write better texts.
I don't understand devs wanting it to write code -
@codingfreedom
About shellscripts (and PRO*C), my team did the best thing.
We converted most in a generic shell that call a package.
So that we get less issues with logic split between linux server and database, someone forgetting to free memory at end, access issues, people don't knowing how to do basic linux commands, etc -
@codingfreedom
As a colleague of Oracle Retail, I feel your pain.
We joke that we open SR to win time on analyzing and fix the issue, it isn't to get a solution from Oracle.
Do you work in all OR apps or are you specialized in some? -
@electrineer What returns?
Government will say that they did the math wrong and you were right -
Good bot
-
Worst thing is when you install an extension on edge and you can't uninstall it after
-
@lorentz I would say short still can look very feminine (sometimes even more)
-
@electrineer True. I always used my plastic bags until they broke down
After that I used for trash -
@JS96 I prefer flat because of image distortion.
Also it makes possible to combine multiple screens better (you can have vertical and horizontal screens, don't have issues of one screen being curvier than others) -
No jokes, sales team.
They always have the final say.
Their ideas could be the worst but they are always right.
The one that won the prize of stupidity was one of the first fuctionalities I had:
"Client need an option to load massive information into database using a word file" -
Except they don't watch tv.
They most of time watch worse things in Tiktok and YouTube. -
As we are talking about russians:
In your countries, do exist pro-kremlin russian organizations?
In Portugal, almost everyday we discover some organization who is pro-kremlin or give informations to Russia.
The worst cases we had was our capital city gave personal data to Russia (at least 27 times, since 2012), and other cases where organizations who welcome ukrainians had connections with Russia and asked "weird" questions to the refugees, like where if they had family in Ukraine or what they think about Russia -
Sometime ago, we got an priority 0 issue, saying the system was inacessible and they need to do stuff to close the month.
We asked for more info, screenshots, video, anything. Because we opened in our side and everything seems okay.
We got in a call with them... they were using Internet Explorer.
We said to use anything but IE, everything was fine and working.
Me:"Issue was solved. They were using an old browser that we don't support"
Sales:"You were fast. Don't forget to add the changes you made in the system and open a problem ticket"
Me:"We didn't do any change. We only said to use a modern browser"
Sales:"But how can we prevent to not happen again?"
Me: "We can't. But in contract we have the supported browser clause." -
It's hard. They think we are wizards and sorcerers.
-
@possum Index, Jindex and Kindex (the cousin of Kinder XD)
-
@stackodev That's more or less what I do.
I have a cool hourglass and when they ask me for 5m, I turn it.
They understand the mensage -
@rittmann I also love it. But the best are the ones were they mix all languages.
"Je estou teniendo a problema in the sistema de exportation de facturas" -
@lambda123 I had a manager that was like that. I miss him, he got medical leave for burnout.
He was responsable for the comunication between our worst client, our directors and we, the support team.
He always said the truth to everyone and he was able to make everyone happy.
He is the most young manager, first time in an IT company, didn't know anything, but he was able to be the best manager. -
Portuguese is winning!
We have 2 emojis: obrigado and obrigada -
@nonox Oh no. I forgot to add 0s in the left
-
This isn't related to dev and it isn't a rant.
So go to 9gag or something -
@alexbrooklyn Yes. And train your nose to look at code and see if it smells
-
@Oktokolo
You triggered my PTSD from last week.
Do you know wordart from Word?
I had a client who wanted to put basically a 3D rainbow wordart. -
”Are you planning on having kids in the near future?”
Do you want one? I can give you one -
@pipe
"Was you who made this shit code? Go fuck yourself!"
"Okay. *unzip and start masturbating*" -
@10Dev
For me, it's 1) the db didn't like my program and the session disappears.
I have other stuff running more time, but never had problems with losing session. It's always the small programs -
I miss the times where memory weren't free.
People make stuff without thinking how much memory and storage it will take, if it will run in a PC or phone 5 years old , etc
