@Elyz Sorry for late reply :)
Yeah, this was a total surprise for me too but at the moment, even a second client actually investigates stuff before going for us... This is especially nice because you don't have to explain too deeply nor he's mad when you tell him that it's not possible :) -
@N00bPancakes LOL. Tho to be fair, one client indeed wrote the HTML+JS version of what he needed.
And funny enough - it wasn't THAT bad. It wasn't great either but based on it - we finished the script and it's working just fine :) (client, without us knowing was learning basic coding in order to understand technical limitations) -
Treat it as an example and not the required solution :)
My clients always do that, they even go as far as search for laravel/vuejs packages to be used that are close enough to give us an example of what they actually want :) -
I mean... If developers would pull their hands out of their fucking asses - we may have a different result. But now when they must stuff their hand's elbow deep into their asses to meet the manager's demands - I'm not a tiny bit surprised.
As an example, we have projects that are really easy to maintain even 10 years later. They were written well.
Yet we have projects that are 6 months old and it's impossible to add anything to it without taking the whole shit down... :)
---
On the other hand, let's just wait and see what monstrosity we will have next. Laravel pushing semi-back-end and front-end mixed shit is not helping this language to reach it's potential. Example, Livewire... -
I've been using Ubuntu for 4 months now. It has never forced me to do updates. Not even 20.04 version.
The first time it did that - when I specifically set that it **CAN** download and install updates on boot :) -
@machopea Well, lets be fair - management is not for everyone. So no, it doesn't mean that you'll eventually be a manager. There's a chance that you'll get an offer for management position but - it's up to you eventually :)
-
Reasons being:
As a developer - there's just so much you can grow and newcommers will catch up to you and outperform you. This is just a common thing. Now, you have few options:
1. Continue working on dev side if the company supports it.
2. Move to a manager role with all your knowledge and be a good manager (not all are good but you get the point!)
So... It's just a next step in their carreer. With possibly a higher salary attached and less rushing to type code :) -
Happens more than I'd like to admit :)
-
@reij Yeah, it depends :)
-
@katbreitin It depends... Not all seniors are capable of actually overviewing code....
On the other hand, I'm guilty of that too. I've tried my best to give honest reviews, say great and bad things but.... If I'm short on time - I don't look for awesome solutions... Just bad ones :( -
@reij depends what is your primary job :) for me it's months and I have no issues with that
-
I'm having these types of days for a few months now. Out of 8-12 hours in the office, I write up to 50 LoC a day. And you know what? As long as it solves the business issue... We are good!
No but with all seriousness, sometimes you need to spend X hours thinking/solving a problem and just a few seconds writing ;) -
Posts on social media **NEVER** represents true lifestyle. Ah, ok ok, sometimes it does. But that's a rare thing.
---
Also, why don't you confront him with the fact that he's toxic and doesn't do what he said on linkedin? :D -
Xcode, please.... I just need your tool pack not the whole fucking app....
-
@RANTSMCPANTS Well, you see, if you can do it better - just do it :) Somehow I can't really see many frameworks rising above even code igniter level and that's pretty low... Somehow when people solve one issue - there's another.
But, from your comment, I'm sorry but it's really really clear that you are trying to blame without really looking into both stories.
Your argument that you can code better than framework? Awesome, but is it secure enough? I highly doubt. Sorry. OSS has advantage there.
Oh, they are making money? That's a lame argument...
---
And to be fair, I'm not discouraging them from avoiding frameworks. Fuck no. I'm discouraging them from creating their own bike without knowledge how even a wheel works. Sorry but people shouldn't jump into RAW stuff without knowledge. And here is the main argument why we won't ever agree :)
btw. I have no hard feelings, sorry if I hurt yours or made you angry, it's just that I've heard enough of this over my days :) -
@stonestorm To be fair, I am using laravel and honestly - had no issues. Why? Well.... I don't search for packages if I know that I can use pure php to do the task faster.... Searching for packages just because it's a package - is stupid as hell....
But overall, I see your point, and yes, there are some cases where it's beneficial to go raw php :) -
I'm sorry but you are a PURIST who just doesn't want to accept that something isn't working to your liking.
And that's okay.
But what is not okay - posts like this - will get people away from frameworks. I've been there. At a time where we had Zend and CI as major ones - people told me to stay away and create my own. I did that. It was working just fine, except development time.... When I got into a normal one that fitted my needs (and still does to this day, 6 years running strong) - time in which I develop things became so small that days with native code seems like waste of time.
Yet, before you bash me - everyone has different styles and opinions. Since I've been in both camps - I can clearly say that it was a required experience. It just didn't fit my needs :) -
@drego Open sourced wife comes with a side-affect on system performance. Most likely some form of HIV or something like that may be introduced in the system.
It is best to have a shared wife.exe that can run on multiple platforms. Just an issue there - you may have conflicts of some sorts. So preferrable to avoid those. -
Wife.exe is known as a "beta" version as @skprog mentioned.
Unfortunately he forgot to mention that this program runs on occasional expensive injects. Flowers? Bring no less than 100 or else you may experience cook() functionality to be off, sex() to be crashed and well, occasional mad() to be a top priority process. Jewelry may help to add capacity in operations but that depends. Sometimes actual vacation() call must be done or total bedBurrito() mode activated in order to clear up the process.
Oh and children().spawn() is a painfull 10 month procedure with actual 18 years of balancing between resources.
---
But may the future hold the best for you and your wife.exe bring value to your business rather than chaos and crashing. -
@Ranchu to remove it all together and use only wireless charging.
-
Funny thing but.... The bigger the box - the better the product :)
Once we did testing in our school, where we gave people out a leaflet with specific codes for ESET antivirus system... There was a 1000 in total. Small portion of them was used and even smaller - where people were happy. Now, when we gave out a BOX (quite literally) of the same system, same amount - more than half of it was used and we got compliments that it didn't require a CD to use (we've used same trick, surprise - NO CD!!!). To our surprise - people actually ticked a box where it said that bigger box provided them with confidence... Even if it was mostly empty with the same code....
---
That was stupid indeed and does not reflect anything but... Bigger is always better in people mind. Same goes for office 365 subscription... Their box is like 4 cd's thick but inside you have a code + manual.... -
@asgs yeah, I get that, it was more like a sarcastic joke in this situation :) don't take it too seriously
-
@asgs Impossible, given that it suppose to account network ping + connecting and retrieval....
-
@kamen Because imagine if all cars looked like this - how much FPS we would have in games! No stupid details, nothing, just good old triangles :D
-
@kfalencik To be fair, it's trully all about your mindset. Like - if you think it's shitty, it's gonna be shitty...
As for sex.... that does help.... too bad you need a SO with that desire too or else... you are just a "handsome" person -
Well, maybe there's a huge difference in people....
Some go for the looks
Some go for functionality....
Now that said - it's by no mean a perfect looking thing but... Imagine that it's a tool... Like.... Builders tool. Yeah, you heard me right - what if I work in a construction site and want a durable truck? Isn't this a perfect fit? Seriously, if it can't be dented easilly, no plastic parts to crack - that's a lifesaver. Not to mention - washing it is just so simple... Like it's a plain side. No curves, bumps - nothing....
Then again, people asked for safety and shit - well, this was a prototype... it's by no mean the final product.... They will change it but after all - truck has to be tough + have good specs. If tesla hits all of them - who cares how it looks? Especially if it's just a tool to get the job done....
ps. Remember all the hillarious videos when X random thing broke glass. If they prevent that - awesome. -
That's a balance you need to find... Personally I'm not in such position just yet but working towards it:
- Cutting down on coffee
- Walking (but not as much as I would want)
- Taking breaks every hour or two
- Standing desk at home for entertainment/gaming
- DYI stuff, just trying totally new things that I see interesting (most of the projects unfinished lol, just got bored too much and felt like forced work)
- Due to work type, I can't stop thinking about work nor block notifications for too long but I tend to do that as much as I can
- Going out with friends on weekends as much as possible
- Doing more and more offline things...
---
There's some more things in there but they are too small. Overall, I haven't found the perfect recipe for myself but I'm not too overworked too, so at least there's that -
That may be a router itself. Mine has IP assigned to himself for no obvious reason (other than the "root") and you can't remove it.
Or, it simply can be your provider with access to your router.... :D -
Sounds like...
Somebody hired their sibling!
tadum-tssss
----
with all seriousness - seen that happen. People would do jack shit, mess up with others and still get promoted....
Tho, I saw one guy getting burned like that. He got to team manager level and his team pulled a prank on him (he was a bad member there). The prank included breaking some specific functionality that the "manager" wrote back in the days. Little did they know - manager actually hired an indian developer to do the job and actually has no clue how it works. So... To everyones surprise - when he was put at pc with CTO and CEO behing him - he quickly admitted that he always pretended and hired indian programmers.
Since that day - company actually evaluates everyone periodically and equally. No more family members above all -
Well... Since I saw farming mentioned:
GLASS MANUFACTURING.
Seriously... We live in a glass age where glass is everywhere. We all have one in our pockets, we all have few of them in our home/backpack. If not for the glass - world wouldn't be so portable/user friendly.

If we speak from a specific technology, then I'd say internet is one of the greatest things out there.
