Maybe read Addy Osmani's ebook about JS patterns. You can read it for free online.

Be a doctor. A volunteer. Actually do something useful.
The idea that code could make the world a better place is Silicon Valley bullshit (for 99% of cases). -
I know more people who own computers than people who own helicopters.
Also, a broken computer usually does'nt end with people falling from the sky and dying (maybe in stallites?). -
Our policy used to be (working for a fairly big internet company) : if it's below 5% usage, we don't support it.
But there are always exceptions, for example if you target people in administration, banking etc. where people just cannot upgrade their browser because of conservative (ahem) IT policies... -
@thedevdevil or a framework. Just use a framework.
-
I do too.

That's a bit how I lost my hotmail address : the account was so old that it didn't have any security question at the time I created it. But they asked for one anyway...
When I lost the password, I lost the account for good. -
Where I work, ENG folks used to get a telephone on their desk by default. After a while, they realized that most of them didn't use them. So it became opt-in.
No phone on my desk either. :) -
I get the analogy, and heard similar things for different creative fields (design, illustration...).
The fact is that there is now a plethora of webdevs (I don't say good ones). The learning curve used to be low: no need to go to an expensive school with long studies, just get a computer with internet. And by definition the market is global : freelancing platforms cut down the prices a lot.
So until you have a well-defined niche, or a pool of clients you already know well, potential customers often have the high hand when negotiating... -
@omjessica You are here, so maybe people assume that you can take care of yourself?
-
Did you learn things you could use in another language?

I have absolutely no idea where are the headphones that came with my iphone. So I bought new ones. Several times. They cost something like $7 in any convenience store.
I suspect that Apple-approved new headphones will be more expensive, and that you'll have to visit an Apple store (or a certified reseller) to get them.
And they will work only with Apple devices, meaning you'll have to carry more stuff (when travelling for example, I like to use my own headphones on a plane). -
What does that even mean?
-
I also noticed that my GF happily clicks on every shady banner that says "Slow computer! Click here and install our optimizer!".
And actually install said "optimizer". -
not too trendy,

I would assume the answer is in the name of the app?
At the time, Secret went even further, with colorful animals and no names at all. I think it's actually liberating, people judged (?) you on what you said, not on your number of posts/reputation/karma etc.

Actually I think that CSS should be handled by the designers (I mean regular CSS, even preprocessor stuff like SASS – it's less clear whith stuff like React etc.).
You are a "webdesigner" and cannot implement your design? Go back to print, thanks. -
@youness Pc Engine Duo (Turboduo ? in US).
-
@Jumpshot44 There are indeed. Few and far between though.
-
@Phyro Maybe. But after a while in the job, you're kinda expected to step to a mangement role. Being an "individual contributor" forever is not always an option...

It's by phases. I spend 6 months hitting the gym three times a week, then two months doing notjing, then start again from zero.
Many dev folks around me who workout it seems. (company provides free gym membership, and the new generation of brogrammers seems waaaay more health conscious) -
Love this tee.

Wordpress is written in PHP and is kinda messy. Used to be something easy to sell as a freelancer, since you can use it to do many things, but it's not exactly future-proof.
-
Threadless tee I think?
-
Depends how much time/motivation I have.
Also it's nice to have someone beyond yourself to enjoy the food you cook. :) -
Well, it does the job I guess.
