back to devrant, yay!

closed my account when i entered a really nice company, but after a year it was taken over by another one that was not-so-good at all, started working for another startup and, BOY, i really didn't miss ranting about work, but now i NEED a place to let this all up, little by little, somewhere, before my brain melts

current startup is one of those founded by rich dudes who had an "amazing" idea that, as time passed, turned into a monster that not only eroded the team from inside, but also made us see how spoiled the bosses are

Wait, is there any other type of startup? Other than those tooooootally real rags-to-riches fairy tales, of course.

@JsonBoa well, usually it's the same old shit about startups, right? 🥲

though, recently started a side business with some friends, and we're trying to build our kind of startup

tbh, kinda hard not being a group of rich kids, relying on your experience for the do's and don'ts, but we had a really nice year in earnings for a side job 🥹 no people harmed, no mental stability broken

@yxjs as long as you guys don't fall prey to the bullshit cycle of "growth hacking" for "exponential scaling" and "customer centric" and all the other buzzwords...
If you lads don't plan of scamming anyone with a "unique opportunity of seed capital" or some other shenanigans, they why call your shop a "startup" and not simply a "small company"?

@JsonBoa that's why we're thinking about our goals and strategies as a company

we don't like the idea of having seed money for all the reasons we've accumulated as of now, so we're pretty heavy on dropping the "startup" thing

also, we're pretty much tired of all "growth hacking", "exponential scaling" and mainly "customer-centric" stuff, we've worked on some big companies down here and harshly discovered it's pretty much bullshit

When I was doing computer science one of the dudes in the program wanted me to work on a game with him. He had 4 businesses by that point at 18, one of which was a webshop and I know he had 4 developers working there making websites for clients. That business alone paid him more than enough income.

Working on the game with him though I got to find out he was entitled. I don't think he was entitled as a person, but he started treating me like I was an employee of his and not a friend / random person. I pieced together perhaps he thought he was paying me, he was paying the web shop guys. You can't just tell me to "work faster" because after 2 months of 16 hours days of working on your game I said I was stuck on a physics problem and was gonna go take a break and watch TV for a couple days to destress. What a nuts fucking perspective. He abandoned me and the project after that because I laughed at him insisting I work. I'm not his employee!
