Wait someone said Java is going downhill and new projects aren't really made in Java anymore outside of Android? The fuck I'm just learning Java. Granted I really am learning it because I want to make stuff for Android but again wtf? Will this become its only use at some point til Kotlin takes over?

@JonnyCodewalker Agreed, maybe Java is not the hottest language any more but its still one of the largest together with many more “not so hot older” languages.

Its still going to be around and kicking for decades and there will be companies committed to java despite there is a new hot language that takes all the attention.

So learning Java is never wrong unless your trying to get into one of the “cool” new upstarts that often like to use the latest since they are not burdened with history.

Not all of them succeeds though ;)

Have a look at large JVM projects like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Deeplearning4j, etc.
The Java ecosystem is very much alive and kicking. You could learn Scala and do a lot of the newer "cool" stuff, a lot of Java knowledge will translate to Scala really well, and it's used in production code.

Not by a wide marging. Not as much because of the language. Developers for the JVM do not get really attached to Java as a language, we do for the platform since we have a large selection pool (much like .net).

The language itselt is not bad. Quite expressive once you get the hang of it. And with amazing frameworks and tools, well, you really can't go wrong.
