Wow, I'm just gonna repost part of a recent comment I left elsewhere. It seems apropos:
...all I'm saying is that no one expects iOS to run Android apps, nor does anyone get upset when their OSX apps don't run in Windows... why is Linux the only OS that people believe should run every other OS's API smoothly?
  • 4
Because i secretly hope linux will run all my old 98 software.

    There is wine.
  • 3
@skprog It probably can do that. WINE works for a lot of things... just nothing that I ever REALLY need it to.
  • 7
@agaskins to be clear, I don't blame WINE... they do an amazing job at reverse engineering a proprietary API that is likely engineered specifically to make their task harder.
  • 4
    oops... talking to myself again...

Actually I really like Linux (especially Arch), but can't switch to it as primary OS yet, bc my uni still requires Windows for running NASM Assembly programs... My friends from uni tried to run it w/ Wine, but they failed... So I'll wait till next semester...

I am about to get told that... There is this service to do seminars called WizIQ, my school is exporting the recordings in a zipfile that contains an exe that rund a flash player that plays a multi bitrate swf...

I do not want to install all the shit I will need to reproduce that so I asked for an mp4.

The tutor just told me that I wouldnneed flash to login to it anyway (wich is true, but flash for firefox, which I have) and asked with OS I use.. I use pop!_os.

I think I am about to read I need Windows.

Then I guess he also does not like macOS?

    @tomiolah1998 is vbox an option?
  • 0
@agaskins I don't really know about that... Still, better be safe for now...

You can run Space Cadet pinball on Linux which can't be done on Windows, ironically.

    chmod +x file.exe
    boom!
  • 3
@MaxDeepfield 'boom' is an appropriate description of what will happen I if one does that, I suppose... haha

No, you are winning right now

Feeling relieved .... I am not the dumbest tech person

@jAsE keep telling yourself that bud...
  • 0
@jAsE ok, thanks for the advice. I'll try to deal best I can.

@jAsE I just looked thru your page and see that somewhere between one half and two thirds of your posts involve complaining angrilly about something Windows/Microsoft products are doing... Haha. It's all good tho man, I got no hate for the proprietary side. I even use windows on one of my 7 laptop/desktop systems. It runs my music rig which has a lot of windows only drivers. The moneymakers run Linux tho. Oh, I do run an older version of Photoshop in a Win VM when I have to use it. I'd rather find common ground and create than divide and bicker over software bro

Hey guys.... @404response Said... I'm wining.... Wine? running wine? He's not crying because linux doesn't runs Exes...
Also, thats a very stupid statement.... Not liking linux because it doesn't run exe files is the same that saying that windows doesn't run linux software....

Bitching Because yes and Bitching because no... That's 99% of the people

Anyhow... I'm a windows user, and The only reason I haven't changed is because of .... GAMES!!!!!

@RodrigoF yay, somebody understood it :P

Ultimately I have found that any software that is not distributed for Unix is not really worth using in the first place.
