I'm creating a website and I'm thinking: Wow, I use html, css, javacript and python, I'm awesome! Then I see what other people know: shit, I'm not awesome...
Programmer: the more you know, the more modest you become...

Socratic wisdom, the more you know, the more you know you don't know. It's not modesty, it's probably a mixture of respect and fear of the unknown and how it might be knocking on your door some day.

I never declare to be an expert because someone in the wings is always ready to shoot you down( normally because they have read a white paper you haven't)

@philcr: same here, I avoid the word "expert" like the plague. And I get extra suspicious when people claim to be one of those famed creatures.

@Spee I normally start looking for holes in what they say, and more specifically a way to shoot them down. Expert shooting is a sport in our office.

@philcr: Agreed, but you were spot on with the white paper thing; there's always the possibility they read this one thing you haven't. So usually I'll just throw my best "I'm onto you" look at them ^^

@sheeponmeth and to that point Confucius also said "True wisdom is knowing what you don't know".

keep thinking you're awesome but take in count that there's a really big amount of stuff you have to learn. sometimes is depressing so instead think positive
