Project requirements include a database. I don't have permissions to create a new database on the server, so I go to the person that spins up new servers and deals with group policy. They rustle some papers around, looking aggravated, throws up hands and says, "I guess I'm the DBA now..." Well, what the fuck am I supposed to do shithead? Ask the web team to do it? We don't have a DBA. My boss has been gone all week and, really, this isn't a hard task. You check a fucking box.

Whatever, I'll remember this when they need a favor from me.

@heyheni I wish. Lot of old practices here and any ideas I put out there to modernize are all but ignored. We don't have coding standards, the web team are still using SourceSafe, and I had to practically beg for an upgrade to Visual Studio 2013. We have production Cobol and VB6, for crying out loud...

@pacohojaverde isn't cobol already dead for like a million years?

@ilikeglue My boss would argue that its performance would still hold up today and that there are many legacy systems in production that still use it, but computing power is getting cheaper and not burdening coders coming after me would be nice. đź–’

@pacohojaverde well maybe the performance is good but the pain of developing kinda out weights it so I'd say you're right on this one. Sadly I'm sure he won't understand.
