"Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was"

I've come to love this quote. We, the engineers, are shaping the world. We have the tools, knowhow and expertise to move mountains.

I said it before years ago and I'll say it again: all the other roles are meant to assist us, not the other way around. We don't work for managers, sales dept., bosses. They can't do shit without us. Why do we need them? To buy us toys, to sell our creations and suggest us how to shape our creations to make a better sell.

Quit slaving if you feel you are a professional. Quit bending over to sales' and mgmt nonsense timelines and demands. Hear them out, consider their concerns and give them YOUR estimates and approaches.

WE are the power of creation. THEY work for us. Not the other way around.

Does not apply to juniors. They are still learning their way around

Made always more than I could spend and worked more than I would get paid for 😂 I never felt a slave, I always manage to do my own thing or project within the company, normally by investing some of my own free time to make a POC.

I was told that if you want to solve a problem, you have to make it your own. If you see the product not as your kiddo / responsibility - it will feel like slavery indeed.

But a this moment, if I have to go to work soon, I'll probably feel like slave (this just a real one) I guess. I spend so much time at home, totally learned to enjoy myself. I will really miss my former attitude to work, it was a gift, if your work is awesome, 70% of life's in your pocket. Maybe more, depending on what stage in life.

Think that employers getting nicer than ever, why do we feel like such slaves?

Nice rant, that's why you according to new statistics are the 14th most appreciated ranter 😁 I'm 56th ☹️

Very good take. Managers and marketers are scum, but the world that we’re shaping… who do we do it for? I want to believe that we do it for the masses.

My idea of an utopia is that every boring and unremarkable person could live a fulfilling life without needing to work a single day. Happiness and suffering-free life for as many people as possible.

Right now, the only way for a boring person to achieve that is to learn how to lie and become a manager. I want to end that.
