retoor4632dI use it, thanks to it I never had to search for a job. Annoying but handy network. I have a lot of recommendations.

I haven't updated mine in over 10 years.
Back then, LinkedIn was the only 'social network' allowed at work. Facebook, etc were all blocked at the firewall. Any+all attempts to access blocked social networks were logged and reported to supervisors and managers. Luckily devRant wasn't flagged as a 'social network'. Whew!
Even then, LinkedIn traffic/posts were monitored and if you, for example, updated a job skill, managers questioned if you were updating your skills to be more attractive to other employers.
The catch 22 was they (upper-mgmt) wanted more LinkedIn activity to make us more 'attractive' for LinkedIn's searches, but didn't want to look too attractive for head hunters to make job offers to devs/DBAs (which did occur).
All that changed when the owner+CEO started getting requests from other CEOs asking why he wasn't on the socials. When 99% of the employees were on their phones anyway at these sites, it was dumb to take system resources to restrict it. -
kamen69252dDepending on your situation you might be missing out.
I got my current job due to a recruiter finding me there - mostly because I had listed experience with a relatively niche technology. So it doesn't get in the way when I don't want it to, but could be useful when I need it. -
When they started pushing the woke, and all I got was spam. I deleted my account. Still get fucking spam from those assholes at work. Some fuck on there saw where I worked and guessed my email. It only happened after I updated my current work location.

I like seeing the recruiters message me even tho I never reply
I was one of the early Facebook people because my best friend for some reason cared about it, but she disappeared like a decade ago and after college I didn't have a use for Facebook (comp sci used it to coordinate group projects) so I ended up deleting it. I don't belong on such places, it's too "normal" and I'm too spicy and won't play pretend
I got informational FOMO though. I'll never say yes but I still wanna know what's out there so I like it when I get emailed -
@PaperTrail damn they sound needy
a place I worked for would harass me if I didn't post LinkedIn stuff about their company. couldn't stand it. felt so creepy. they similarly didn't even want the clients I was building software for to even know my name. thanks, jerks -
You're !alone.
Had one for one maybe two months, then deleted it.
It was well over a decade ago.
Am I the only person on earth not having a LinkedIn account?
Please tell me I am not alone.
