Waiting 15+ minutes while Windows "indexes" a folder just so I can see the contents reminds me of why I dislike Windows as an OS so much.

This is a senseless operation that is of no benefit to the user.

    ++1 for your tag "fisher price OS" I tend not to choose side in these OS discussions, but this was pretty funny ;)

    Just disable directory indexing, it's on the right click menu under properties !

    @bluescreen, if it was my machine or if my father-in-law weren't sitting right there next to me, I'd have gladly disabled indexing... that service is the first to go, especially on PCs with an SSD. It is a shame that even that operation takes ages... "bad code" indeed.

    If you truly want to pull your hair out, install Windows on a VM on spinning disks... That will paint a clear picture of just how utterly abysmal the OS is at thrashing disks.
