I normally do front-end web development, but I am interested in learning some back-end. What are the best languages for back-end web development?

Mostly subjective.
However: look into node and ruby.

Node is popular, and ruby is bliss.

Isn't C# what people use these days. Sorry, not super versed in this stuff but this is what my buddies use.

I think it's pretty much the standard now for webapps...although I may be talking out of my ass. My crazy rich developer friends in London use that..and only that to build back ends for financial companies.

It's concise, easy to read, and absolutely blissful to code in. It works with you, not against you.

Golang, clean simple neat. And you can learn it in 30 minutes literally.

@intromatt c# is mostly used where there is some form of microsoft sponsorship involved, but yeah, its probably in the top 5 choices for enterprise-level backends
