Even though I was offered a future position (from intern part time to junior full time) I still worry that I'm not doing enough. Some days I just don't have work to do and all the higher ups are in meetings. Mix that with the bit of social anxiety and having trouble approaching people and I feel like I look like a slacker, even though I really do want to work on stuff and improve.

What can I do to wow the higher ups with some consistency?

Maybe create a better version of whatever you're working on...better database, better UI, etc. I'm pretty sure you can identify some areas where the project is lacking...fix em💪🏽

@MrMakeItHappen unfortunately the projects I'm working on are... Big. And very complex. I work on but a small part of it that feeds into a larger system.

could always take a look at individual pieces and try to improve them in some way. If that's not possible then get a read on what needs to be improved immediately and try to tackle it.

For instance at my first company I dug up an old program for a solar charge device and rewrote it in a few hours, and it actually ran on the NUC they originally abandoned due to lack of processing power. Just an example of taking the initiative to make things better.

I'm also very quiet in meetings/general social situations so I feel you.

@spoiledgoods interesting. I could look around one of the projects and see how things work. I wish I could be more specific but you know how it goes. There are currently teams of 10+ people on the projects working in sprints and improvements every day, at the very least I could track some issues and see how they handle them. I imagine trying to do it myself and push to production would give them a heart attack lol
