The history has witnessed that every civilization has a downfall and I think it's the time for better civilization than Facebook

My two cents on Facebook...I dunno if its at fault or not but its breeded a toxic culture... Its amazing how a community of non-anonymous people can be so combatitive and mean and unsupportive and negative and yet a community like devrant and reddit of anonymous people can be so supportive and agreeable and helpful toward each other... (Yes I know there are nasty sub reddits lol)

@Ace71425 there are always pros and cons of everything. Here I will like to mention three things 1. We as human , always needs a social network . 2. Few years back ello tried to compete with Facebook but failed as Facebook has turned so big that it was difficult to compete. 3. There is whole segment of people who spends so much time on Facebook that it effects the productivity ( directly and indirectly both)

May be we will see a block chain based opensource social network soon and as we know every next evolution is better than before. Let's see.
P.S. I am active on devrant only, dormant on LinkedIn. And I do not have any account on any other social network. That doesn't mean I am against it, I am just not comfortable.

@rookiemaverick Totally with you on this man. I quit Facebook but went to reddit and now I love devrant. Social media is not a bad thing. Its a way to stay connected, a support structure. Facebook just became toxic to me. Its pure negativity and disagreements and arguments and politics. I think what makes Facebook and twitter like that is its broad scope. Devrant is for developers its scoped in to a certain topic. On reddit you can search for specific topics.

If you talk about civilization yes it did check out the recent wars did.

Facebook and instagram are based on fantasy. People use it to project an image, and by trying to impress, feel better. Also, the amount of useless and meaningless discussions there are sick.

I agree humans need social connection, but I'm amazed how many are accommodated with such a poor quality of social sharing.

I wish more useful and healthy communities like devrant can thrive in the future.

Facebook has become toxic and depressing. Full of shit and hypocrites. I still have mine, but every time I opene it up I have to delete a bunch of people or I seriouslt consider closing it.
I only have it because at the time I did it for one reason only: my wife. Back then she was my friend and we would talk through msn chat, but after they went away with it she told me that we should open up a fb account to stay connected, so I did and it was only because I wanted to stay close to her while I was living in S.Korea.
Today, everyone is bitching about gun control, or a red vs blue thing, Trump this Trump that, immigrants and bla bla. I love the fact that I get to see how ridiculously vapid people can be. A dude posted a picture of his wife telling the world how much he loves her, yet he has cheating on her with every filipink hooker he could find. This chick posts how much she loves Jesus, yet she was fucking the manager at the retail store to get more hours.

@AleCx04 And family members. My families hate each other. Dad's family is ridiculously wealthy...doctors lawyers engineers business owners you name it. The most shallow people to walk the earth all constantly showing everyone how perfect their lives are yet they constantly backstab one another and bitch about me since I was never "proper" enough to apparently carry the oh so glorious and ancestral family name....fuck them. And fuck fb for giving these people a chance to gauge and judge the lives of others. Makes me think of that black mirror episode with Bryce Dallas. Social media was built for connecting people...but just like most things that idiots touch it turned to shit.

Facebook needs to die out. Honestly, I believe Snapchat and Instagram need to as well.

@AleCx04 You know I always thought of Facebook as the evolutionary step toward that black mirror episode, but you're right, its pretty much there already.

Someone made an analogy to me that its our modern day version of witch trials, public mobs and hangings. I think Facebook just makes it disappointing to find out how many real life people you know are some of the nasty ones online.

But there is a light at the end of this tunnel... Quit Facebook, quit all major "news" stations (cnn, fox, msncb, etc) and you'll start to see the world isn't half bad.

I tell people that and they think I'm being uppity and uninformed. I have my own social gatherings and social groups and a specialized news feed with articles on my interests and MAJOR events. You have fun with your scare mongering, acting like isolated events are nationwide epidemics and feined outrage over every opinion that shatters your fragile worldview.
