retoor45078dOr find a rich partner. If I wanted a partner, I wouldn't mind staying at home and program whole days. But I already did more than 15 years of professional development. Coding is still fun, but for a living, meh. All the fun stuff is done and you're not allowed to do fun stuff. It's all glue-ing stuff together these days. The lesser you made yourself the better is the mentality these days. That's why AI can take over, you can avoid complex stuff easy these days :(
-
@retoor nah, it depends. Web dev, especially CMS stuff is totally just glueing stuff together and write configs all day long.
But there is so much more stuff to do which is fun.
AI sucks balls. It‘s only useful if you have the experience and skill to recognize when it produces bullshit and can make it correct itself.
It’s a tool. It can not do things on its own but needs devs to do the transitional mental work. -
retoor45078d@Lensflare AI is very boring development. It's kinda the opposite as what were used to. The comfortable thing about programming is that it always does what you tell it to do. I case of kinda can't guarantee that and it's many times not correct. But still, you can do beautiful stuff with it. You should see @BordedDev git tool. It's awesome.

@retoor I see programming as both, engineering AND art. And what I want from AI is to take over the engineering part and leave the art part to me.
But at the moment it’s more the other way around.
Which is why I‘m both, skeptical and enthusiastic about AI. -
retoor45078d@Lensflare im fascinated because it can do way more than I expected to. My bar for it was way lower. I didn't know we were that far. Always bit surprised by people that are dissapointed by AI. I less than one or two year and we're all promoting probably. Would be sad, because I consider coding an art too. But just like the use of frameworks, employer wants you to. Maybe we'll become master reviewers or so.
-
@retoor essentially yes, I think we will become kind of master reviewers. Or maybe directors and reviewers.
-
@retoor the other day I found out my partner is so naturally giving when a friend says they don't have enough time to write a report he just wrote the damned paper for them, unprompted...
this guy is too giving. it's a little weird. he has no writing aspirations. he gets nothing out of that and he just goes to people's houses and fixes random things in their house, which I can kind of understand because people doing things wrong bugs me too, but writing a whole civics paper unprompted is something else wtf
he also says I can just stay home but I'm confused! -
@retoor @Lensflare boring work is called CRUD apps. need to be done, super boring accounting work
-
@Lensflare viewing coding as art in my experience means nitpicking code and getting nothing done. then you can't see the forest for the trees. you hyperfixate on how something is built and never actually build it
-
@jestdotty I never had to do crud apps because it makes no sense. Just query the data from the source directly.
-
@jestdotty I view code as art and I get stuff done. Just today I got acknowledged how efficient I am. so, not true at all.
-
NoMad138438d@retoor I rather find a rich parent.
ngl, I haven't found anyone who'd match my vibe in the long run. I guess my soulmate is either dead or in jail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
retoor45078d@jestdotty it can be fun if you make everything yourself. I'm working on a chatapp. But boring too but made everything myself and different than the mainstream and it was a good idea.
-
NoMad138438d@retoor idk, I am literally three racoons in a trench coat. I don't think anyone would want that as a sugar baby. 🤔
-
retoor45078d@NoMad there are a lot of fetisjhes these days. Raccoons are awesome btw. Garbage pandas.
-
Yes, I am really interested in your legacy databases and visual basic code to control your 1960s era CNC machines. As long as it pays for my Maserati.
-
I would keep sending a dude gifs of this and now he associates me with it so he must be into it
