The worst thing I’ve seen a dev do is create a social sharing platform that sells its user data to the highest bidder and then asks for forgiveness after the privacy horse is out of the barn.

    @stackodev your missing my point, Facebook sells advertising... The advertiser says "black guy in mid 30's with decent income who likes games" Facebook then targets said people.

    Advertiser does not get a list...

    No, but a diligent enough person can compile a list of actual individuals from their engagement (likes, shares, and comments). The names appear. Screen scraping and other manual data gathering methods do exist and are employed.

    Even so, the damage a company like Cambridge Analytica can do with the level of access and detail they obtained unencumbered can be a problem.

    @stackodev but that goes against Facebook *policy* so of course advertiser's wouldn't do that...
