The newest Android version is used by 1.1% of users... and they are already releasing a newer version.

Will Google ever find a way to fix this? It's fucking pathetic.

    @ScribeOfGoD Samsung doesn't take a fucking year and a half to get it out. If I'm not mistaken, even the Motorola flagships don't have 8.0 yet. Like what the fuck that's bullshit.

    @Haxk20 Yes it does ring a bell, and clearly it doesn't do shit.

    Google should start forcing manufacturers to update to the newest versions, at least for newer phones. There's no way this can be fixed otherwise

    @jhh2450 I don't have 8.0 either, I'm using Galaxy S7

    @ScribeOfGoD To be fair, they're already at S9... The newer devices have priority over devices that are a few generations behind.

    They did something to this with oreo: project treble. That's why you should not buy phones which don't originally come with oreo.

    @RantSomeWhere To add on; a lot of the devices stuck on 5.0 and 6.0 are by people with economic phones who don't give a shit about their OS version. Or elderly people who just want a phone that works. Most people who truly cares about OS version go for flagship phones by companies known for keeping their OS up to date.

    I still have a Samsung S4 Mini with Android KitKat (4.4.2). Still works like a charm!

    Yeah, by doing what I'm sure they'd love to do and make pixel the only option on the market lol.

    I'm still running Nougat!

    To the people saying manufacturers should update their software I say: ask yourselves what their incentive is.

    It's could be security for their users. But no, they really don't care that much for security. What they care about is money and where do they get that? Selling phones! So, release new phones instead of updates!

    'By the way, did you know that our new phone also has the latest security besides new features?'

    Furthermore, it is difficult to develop a ROM, especially for hardware that gets older every year. What is more: Google specifies what every next Android API level should do. Because this changes with every level (it's a different version for a reason), it's difficult to keep up to date with that specification. It's easier to start from scratch for newer hardware that you can sell for a higher price.

    @eeee I bought and used the Moto E2 for 2 years... Never expected the $80 phone ton receive an update; not worth the time it'd take. But flagship phones taking ages to get the update is total bullshit that is unacceptable.

    Google has a solution: spend $1000 on a pixel.

    Though I discovered this morning that my phone is running Android 8, and I didn't even notice before. It is almost indistinguishable from 7.

    My old LG G2 is still on KitKat...😔

    You know the best way to enforce this?
    Google Play Store removing device certification (like what they do on uncertified devices and roms) for all devices beyond 3 Android iterations.
    And ensuring that manufacturers complies on this agreement.

    @Tobey As I mentioned above, old flagships aren't getting updates, and if they do, it's late.

    They're on the LG G6 and the G7 will probably be released by the end of 2018. That's 5 generations separating your phone and their current market standard. Even apple doesn't put out support of that level.

    Honestly don't see the big deal, security updates is done through the play store last i checked into it. Updating my os would either force them to limit updates to features my phone can handle or giving me a sloggy brick that's a pain to use.

    Stupid scroogle... No they're too busy searching for security flaws in windows, spying on us and collecting money from ads

    Android One isn't a guarantee for fast updates. I still have 8.0 with March security patch.

    Also this numbers are outdated. Here are the newest ones.

    Skipping version updates. Best strategy...

    @GolDAce Still pathetic

    I just updated to Oreo because LineageOS 15.1 for the Redmi Note 4 (with Snapdragon 625) is finally out, AND it comes with treble so updates will be faster.
