Still better than German email providers.
They make having an email a paid service again, if you don't want ads.

Buy a raspberry pi and install pi-hole.
No more ads across the whole network.

    It’s not “your” inbox.

@raldo94 dont notice it that much myself. Where does the lag come in then?. Afaik the ads get blocked on a dns level so they dont even get routed to the pc.

Adblock for me. I don't allow it for Facebook. I rarely use Facebook on phone. My plan is to completely abandon Facebook till the end of this year and then delete the account.

    @coda i found out today

@dontbeevil Gmail? I've never seen an advert inside Gmail. They extract your data and use it for advertising purposes but there's no actual ads inside the platform itself.

    Two different things.

@gizmo3399 ah, must be thinking of something else, so it's like a local dns server?

@gizmo3399 is it? sounds pretty interesting

Lol, imagine this happening on WhatsApp...

    And a shitstorm building up.

And FB seeing users wander off to Telegram.

And me being able to finally deinstall WhatsApp, without don't getting to know important infos...

    p.s.
at least in messenger you have to scroll to see the first ads

    What is Facebook Messenger? 🤔

I saw this too. I'm not in the least surprised. They're losing revenue from Facebook and messenger is therefore their last goto.

@raldo94 @darkMatter yes it is exactly like @fun2code describes. It works pretty well you just have to use the pi-hole as the dns server for each device. So if your router does not support adding a custom dns in the dhcp settings you might have to also use the pi-hole as a dhcp server. (This is what i do at home).
So the nice thing will be that ads are also blocked on devices that do not support ad blocking. (Like some phones are game consoles).

So if you have a pi laying about give it a try.
