I really need to repair my 3d printer. But even if I did, where to put it. My wife wouldn't be amused if the baby breathes its vapors... Well, need to find a bigger place, I guess.

So, I need to buy a house, so that I can repair my 3d printer, so I can avoid a 2 weeks wait on a replacement part from China.

or just throw out everything gaming related, buy a second handed x270 for 300 (they're not build anymore), and do elite coding on it. Good for you, good for career, wife happii, helps getting new house and then 3d printing 😁 the best 300,- investment of your life.

@retoor I am allowed to have my hobbies. But most of my hobbies are coding related. And so is gaming. Made me a lot better in reverse engineering.

Long story short, the sofa is surprisingly comfy.

Joking aside. Having coding as a hobby has its downsides. I relax by coding. I sit down, start a movie I have seen a thousand times and start a coding session. Recently I noticed that I try to avoid to focus while coding. I choose problems I am comfortable with and actually watch the movie.

That would be bad enough on hobby projects, but I noticed I postpone every work project until a frantic end deadline and drop hobby project after the boilerplate.

Well, no movie while coding rule fixed my brain within a week. But it was insidious how that vice snuck in. I suddenly had it and realized I had it for a while.

@Demolishun you have enough kids in stock tho. You can actually can take risks.

@TrayKnots I code everything with finishing as main target, because that's the hardest thing. It includes almost no refactoring but do it better next time I have to do such code. Only moving forward. When you're project is moving further it gets more clear if the project is worth it.

For example, my chat app is daily used, so it's worth it. If I would've spent more time due not applying this approach, nobody would be chatting now probably. It's in progress but users actually like seeing getting smth new almost daily. Last update was 12,230,590,464 avatars. Whoops.

I've learned to focus more on product than on code. I mean, I code more than 15 years professionally and more than 25 non professional (I'm 35). My default coding is good enough to focus less on it. I don't have the perfect code as challenge anymore. Did it for many years - found out it's a waste of time. That was the reason my projects before didn't finish. Now progress is going hardcore and have things to show.

had a co worker comment on it. he said he can't focus if he has music playing and has no idea how I do it. ADHD brains apparently focus easier if there's noise

also helps my emotions are amused by music. I don't use any coding part of my brain for music I guess. so I just feel good and motivated from the music
