So I feel confident at least in my front end development skills to maybe start freelancing in the near future. Does anybody have any good recommendations for where to start? How to draw in remote clients? Etc. I honestly dont know the first thing about remote work other than what I've researched.

I'm sure everyone's experience will be different. I started off doing cheap jobs on Fiverr until I got burnt out.

Then I had to drop all my recurring business because I wasn't charging enough.

Things started taking off when I valued my time more and with that I got better clients that were willing to pay my rates.

I didn't charge per hour, I charged per job. I found it easier to manage. Charged half upfront and half upon completion.

Don't do work on production. Copy it to your own server or subdomain so they can see the changes. Push changes upon final payment.

The most surprising thing I found was clients were always happy to get work early. I felt that if it took me 10 minutes to fix how could I justify charging $50. But they would always leave great reviews and were just happy to have it resolved.

After I found a couple of good clients then I didn't need to look for referrals. Business just came to me.
