It helps momentarily as looking far away you will relax some muscles in the eye. But I doubt it will have permanent effect.

Root797707yUnintuitively, "near work" does not appear (pun intended) to be the cause of nearsightedness -- it seems to be a lack of bright sunlight.
I don't have access to the study as I'm on mobile. βΉ -
@Root That's the only study I've heard of, too. And there was no relation between reading books (= looking near for extended periods) and nearsightedness.
@yashpathack do you have a study to back you up or just beliefs? -
