oh boi.
As a guy developer im glad you're a girl and a developer. You are welcome here, not all guys are misogynistic.
^You see how unwelcoming that sounds? -
@Frederick The last statement was for all islamophobics in everywhere in the world.
-
@azuredivay You don't see much discrimination against girls (I'm not feminist!), comparing to discriminations against Muslims.
-
@ClashOfCodes I doubt I've seen people go "You believe in a different imaginary animal? Lemme be rude to you for it"
On a serious note, Im from India, one of the largest muslim populations in the world.
In the end they're people who work to get a roof over their head and 2 times food, like every one else.
Don't tie peoples identities to their religions -
@Frederick It's alright mate, when they will misunderstand it, they will come to the comments to fight then they will realize (or get triggered more) :D
-
@azuredivay Come to the west, and you will understand what I'm talking about (Not everyone only the phobics and the racists ones). I mean people are ready to go to jail here in UK but will not stop the the racism! (again not everyone!)
-
As someone who knows too many islamophobic people and sees that shit happening every day (Netherlands here) I can totally see where that sentence comes from.
It's very simple for me, if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you!
I'm definitely an atheist myself but indeed, happy ramadan for all those who celebrate!
Couldn't do it myself as I've got a sweating problem and would drop onto the ground at 25 degrees when I hadn't had water for like two hours so massive respect. -
fristys647yKeep your religion and political views to yourself. Believe in whatever you like in private. We don't need that kind of stuff here on DevRant. Also, your post is textbook passive aggressiveness, but whatever rocks your boat
-
Funny thing is, in general political/religious stuff is not allowed on here but being a member for ages, I think in this context, this is completely fine.
What is COMPLETELY disallowed is saying about someone's content that it isn't supposed to be on devRant/shouldn't be posted, that's what the fucking downvote/reporting feature is for.
This can get you a warning and permanent ban if you do it again.
Made that mistake myself once and was made clear that that shit doesn't belong on here.
(@ClashOfCodes don't worry :)) -
To be clear, I don't find this passive aggressive, I think it's a nice message!
And quite some commenters are putting this very much out of fucking context. -
@Frederick A personal opinion. As this doesn't even seem remotely passive aggressive to me and actually a fair point I'd say that claiming it being passive aggressive is gravely putting it out of context.
-
@Frederick Look at the other ramadan wishes before my post, people racting as they were converting them to islam?!!!
I'm just sick of people discriminating other people for their race, religion, beliefs, disability....etc and forcing their opinion on others. Like @linuxxx said "It's very simple for me, if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you!" simple and peaceful logic and everyone lives happily for ever! -
@D3add3d Oh I didn't know that, is there a scoreboard where I can see the top ranters .. etc?
-
@ClashOfCodes there isn't but I know someone has poked around the API endpoint and made an unofficial one, dunno who it was tho
-
fristys647yLots of white knighting around here. How is it against the rules to point out when something is out of place?
Since we're on the same topic, saying "I hate x, y, z people because they're rude, racist, sexist, etc." is literally the pot calling the kettle. Stop being offended on other people's behalf.
I thought this was a dev community, where we discuss dev stuff, not silly stuff like this. I don't care what you believe in, I care who you are as a person. That's how it should be always. -
dfox426037yYeah I have to agree here - no politics on devRant, and a Happy Ramadan would have been fine, but the islamophobia part was completely unneeded, made it political, and does sound passive aggressive kind of.
-
dfox426037yAnd I think I can see where it can rub people the wrong way. Honestly, applying it to other religions sounds very bad. “Happy Hanukkah! Not everyone hates Jews!”
-
@fristys It's only against the rules to say that any type/kind of content shouldn't be posted here :)
@dfox Although I kind of disagree, fair enough, I'll keep my earlier comments but they're virtually retracted hereby. (keeping them as I am still behind parts of what I said there)
@ClashOfCodes There used to be an unofficial score board but it doesn't exist anymore. Anyway, yes, I am the biggest on here as for score and also as for privacy possibly :P -
Woa! 47 comments I never thought that my rant will create a controversy!
I'm sorry, If I offended anyone that was not my intention. I was triggered by the comments on this rant https://devrant.com/rants/1407314/.
As many people suggested above it has the random tag and if someone didn't like it, they could just downvote it but instead they took the matter in their hands as they were the police patrol or some authority. -
dfox426037y@linuxxx @ClashOfCodes I think the linked to rant is an example of one that’s perfectly fine. And I do agree, the reactions to that one were inappropriate.
There’s a big difference between simply wishing people who celebrate it a happy holiday and kind of giving some political commentary along with it. -
@dfox Agreed, only the thing is, define a political commentary.
In the Netherlands (or at least where I live) this wouldn't even closely be considered to be a political comment/sentence/however you call it.
In this context I considered the thing she said to be non-political, hence my reaction and defence.
Anyways, my apologies! -
@dfox On the other hand, a rule is to keep religion things off of devRant so I've got to give you that one. Apologies again for going with it.
-
leanrob35637yI have to agree with dfox and others here.
There will always be political and religious problems in the world and people should feel free to support one another...
Just leave it off devRant. This is not the place for it.
I’m sure there is a religious group somewhere that would welcome these kinds of circular and knee-jerk debates, but it isn’t this place...
The only wars I wanna see here are OS wars and those between spaces/tabs.
PS. Is Spaces vs. Tabs our form of a religious debate?
Praise Joe Pesci
🍻
Ramadan Mubarak to all my fellow Muslim developers. Although I'm not a Muslim (Christian here) we are invited by our Muslim neighbors to join their feast (forgot the name) on Sunday. Just wanted to tell you guys to stay strong! not everyone is islamophobic!
