My sister is 16yo and she is not interested in the C.S field. I gave her last year my laptop and it has Debian on it, since i bought a new one. She never told me that she has to deal with any problem, she was just using it.
Today she got a new laptop from our grandma and she texts me "hey, is there any way i can install Linux on that? I don't want to use windows".
Well i told her that she has to wait me to come back home next month and i will take care of it.

I had never thought that i will listen something like that. Good day.

    Just explain to her how to install it. Else she might get accustomed to Windows and doesn't want Linux anymore. 😱

    My sister, 17 YO.
    Once my dad's account got locked. So, I simply enable the super admin in Windows (okay I was a kid back then), and then removed the password from dad's account.

    Sounds cool?

    Guess what. My sister put a password to that very super admin account and I had no option other than to do her homework to get it unlocked xD

    My gf now also uses Linux.

    barely got any complaints of her :)

    Tho, I can have a good laugh when she wants to install something new :^)

    Wow! I did the same exact thing for my sister TWO YEARS ago with Elementary OS after her Windows crashed. And surprisingly no complaints/issues whatsoever. She's come to be really fond of it. Linux ftw!

    Have you tried putting password on BIOS? :p
    And changing the bios to require that password in order to boot?

    @Gregozor2121 Yes! I've put a password on the BIOS and have changed the Boot Screen to a Monochrome Image of myself as a symbol to tell her, "I am the elder one."

    I think she'll flash the BIOS someday lol

    Wow thats is such sweet story indeed. I wish my sis understood this. After giving her a laptop with ubuntu she comes to after a week and says "I cant find the start button. Is this windows 8?". I can understand the start button part. But windows! Common sis. Its linux. Its on the top left side. Lols.

    Most Linux distros now have a relatively easy install process, especially when she won't want to partition her disk or multiboot. It'd be best to just explain to her how to install Ubuntu over he phone.

    Let her install windows once... it's an experience you hardly forget even during darkest linux moments :) At least she'll have first hand experience why the grass is greener on the other side :)
