If Microsoft acquires GitHub, it will be far from the end of git. Even if it is an EEE play, there are still many FOSS variants that will enable the use of git without having to deal with Microsoft's toxic business model.

I still have my gitlab install, and I will continue to use it.

    Even though i really like github i occasionally use gitlab and bitbucket and both are as easy to use as github is. Just sad because ddg doesn't have gitlab or bitbucket integration yet (i dont have hope for gitlab cause selfhosting)

    @dontbeevil Just how would this be related to this rant? That's about a git filesystem, not the github acquirement.

    @linuxxx it's related to "whatever MS touch turns out shit"... they already added three useful features to git, and they're open source

    @linuxxx yeah, but this features they implemented works with git protocol, so you can potentially add them everywhere, they didn't implement only GVFS but 2 more that I can't remember ... will see what will be with github
