Currently playing "the IT guy" for my uncle. I'm supposed to "speed up" the laptop. It's a low tier Toshiba from about 5 years ago, that while idle sits at about 100% CPU usage and 80% RAM usage.
From what I can tell, it has NEVER been turned off since I set it up for him 4 years ago, or unplugged..

    Can't you just factory reset it? Mostly, they're only storing a few mp3's and pics...

    so the uptime in the process manager shows 4 years of uptime?

    @Lukas I think they're only using it for emailing and some web browsing, so a factory reset might be where I go. Removing bloatware first!

    this might sound like a like a windows hating comment, but...

    install linux on that thing!

    - they dont use native stuff
    - linux needs less resources (ok, thats not true for all distros, but you guys know what i mean..)

    @Linux I think under window the uptime rests with every sleep too. under Linux and Mac you get the real uptime ;)
