Just a personal thing (and no clue why) but I can't fucking stand it when people say www. in front of their domains.

Working as a Linux + support engineer, I get quite some calls where people have to give me the domain they're calling about.

"what's the domain if I may ask?"
"oh that's www.theirdomain.com!"

OH FOR FUCKS SAKE JUST SAY THE DOMAIN, WWW. IS *NOT* PART OF IT, IT'S JUST A FUCKING SUBDOMAIN 😤

I guess these people are the reason why my manager once told me to put www in a sub-domain.

Dudes and dudettes.. ex client wanted access to our demo site..I asked for his IP so I can unblock it.. he sent over 192.168.0.xyz... I..well... Fuckit! Took time, about an hour to cool down amd explain to this 'head of IT' what I needed from him for this to work..

Funfact, in my Universitys network we need to add www infront of all adresses to access them, all other traffic is blocked
Also most ports are blocked by using a Whitelist for the "common" ports

It's a useless struggle from the students against the system administrators who are lazy as fuck

The universities CTO said that we might have to wait for the biological solution to solve this shit

Why would you waste airtime saying ”www” when it’s not necessary?

Funny thing thiugh: there are some issues with domains with few characters.
I don’t remember the limit or what the issue was about, but I work on a site with a domain like xx.xx and I was told by our devops guys that in some routing instaces they must specify www.xx.xx explicitly

@agusarias it is. But aliasing www to the domain itself is very possible :D

But even Google adds a www-subdomain

In work we say "dub dub dub" instead. Try it your self surprisingly feels more natural.

But I get you dude, hate when the norm feel the need to say www in front of every url. Heck even had some instead of saying Google it they said www.google it :s

Fun (not really) fact, there are domains that don't work without the www because noone bothered to set it up properly.

@jiraTicket If it's directed to the "uneducated" as it's reinforcing the message but many times it's just because the guy that wrote the script didn't know better.

@nickpapoutsis Yes most of my domains. Solely because I fucking hate the www part and it’s literally just a subdomain so I can leave it out.

@linuxxx I think you know but just to be complete CNAME != redirect. DNS is not capable of redirecting.! That said some providers do provide a redirecting service that integrates with their DNS management interface.

What they do is
1. Make sure the DNS record points to their webserver.
2. Make that webserver redirect the address of the record to the configured donation (URL)

DNS itself is just a record store with a protocol to retrieve those records.
