Hey there,

Was your personal website completely finished when you decided to get it live? What did you include in it?

Sorry for the stupid questions.

@Alice Thank you Alice. I want to publish my personal website soon but I want to make it right otherwise it will work agains me.

The problem is I don't have any portofolio and I don't know any backend technologies because I focus mostly on frontend.

@Ioan93Andrei well you will build it slowly, also no any backend, not even a bit?

@Alice Thanks ) I was thinking about making some more website for fictional companies, something like a restaurant or a law office. But it feels like cheating.

@devTea No, not at all. Maybe I'm not ready yet. I don't even know what kind of backend mechanism I should buid.

I have a contact page where people can write a message and send it. I want to make it go to my e-mail but I don't know how to do that.

I was thinking about learning PHP for the backend.

@Alice Thank you. I think I will finish up my website and get it live without a portofolio and then make some other project to build my portofolio.

If I get anybody to see my website in the mean time, it would be great )

I am self employed, I have my own clients but also work as a 3td party for agencies. My website is basically a holding page with no portfolio, just a paragraph of text. it has been for the last 14 years. I made it properly responsive about 4/5 years ago. Apart from that, I never touch it. It has never got me any work and never hindered in the pursuit of such work. I put little value in it. I don’t want passing trade or shit clients. My clients are all word of mouth and I keep them for years. But that’s specific to me and my circumstances. You could class it as unfinished, but probably a better word would be ‘lacking’. I don’t list technologies I use, just what I can do for you. But i do say definitely no Wordpress.

A project is never finished. it is always a walk in motion. I've put my music, resume, blog, photos and code on my website. It actually looks somewhat nice!

And, not to brag, but I've got my first name as domain with only 5 letters! http://shaji.in

I've even got a little redirection script set up, so I can go to a public folder on my Google drive with http://shaji.in/?drive

Here is my tech blog(some posts are drafts) https://anekix.github.io which got me every Job I applied for including some remote ones.
No portfolio nothing fancy just some things that I have learnt along the way.
Idea is start with anything simple don't just wait for the perfection.

Here's my 2 cents on php:
It's fine and all, if you already know it, but it's not the best. I'd look into node.js, GO, .NET or even Java as a backed.
And just as a disclaimer, I'm not an expert in any of them, but have some experience in both php and Node.js
