sends me a "screencap.avi" on slack. I download and open it, and it's a video of an IE bug where the width of the scroll bar itself takes up just enough that the content gets enough height to trigger a scroll bar to appear, so the whole page keeps twitching because the scroll bar keeps appearing and disappearing every second. LMAO FML FUCK IE

    Put in an IE-only stylesheet, add a comment

    /* This is for all you duckers out there that aren't willing to change and don't understand the implications of the future */
    body { overflow-y:scroll; }

    @Stuxnet Institutional politics can be ridiculous. I spent a summer working on data migration for my university's new database system. The original schedule (posted somewhere in the workspace) said that the switch should have been completed 3 years before I joined the project. The old system was originally implemented in the 80s and had been limping along with various patches for years. (Some people in administration had to do secret rituals in IE to do their jobs.) Despite the new system's clear advantages, the administration workers tended to push back against the new system. I learned more about institutional politics in that job than I did about SQL and database migration. It was not comforting.
