I used to learn touch-typing, but playing games without changing keys makes me forget it.

Why the fuck game markers set WASD as default moving keys? In this case people who play the game don't use the keyboard as they have to. Come on, let's use the keyboard in correct way guys...

Because there's nothing near the arrow keys?
    And wasd has the spacebar, numbers, tab, shift, ctrl, q, e, r, t, f, g, ...

Wouldn't it be annoying if the keys used would change all the time? It's the same as changing keyboard layouts while you are typing.

I can even write with only one hand without looking. I make frequent errors of one key but that's it. I can't relate to your problems.

Im more annoyed by games not using the pause button to pause but escape

I'm left-handed and remap everything to arrow keys and their surroundings. To be honest though, I often map some things to my mouse button (which I have a lot of) for ease of use :)

@zlice do you have home/end/del/insert/pgup/pgdn? If not, how can you deal with any text editing (coding)? Do you use vim?

@TheOct0 im lefthanded and do everything with default layouts

@Supersebi3 I used to do that for the first few months I started gaming, do you cross your hands like I did or do you just play on the left side of your computer?
  • 4
@zlice The fn combination thing for such useful commands seems awful '-'
  • 2
@TheOct0 i dont cross my hands, left hand at wasd right hand at mouse, might be because i grew up playing with computers

@Supersebi3 I'm pretty ambidextrous for anything else than writing, but when it comes to computers I cannot use it as a right-handed would (except from the left and right clicks). I grew up with computers too but with a lefty mom, maybe that had to do with it? I honestly have no idea, but when I had to play on a right-handed setup, I'd grab the mouse on the right with my left hand, and use the keys on the left with my right hand... Guess I'm just weird :)

@zlice I use f5 for refreshing, f6 for editing the address bar on a browser, f2 to rename files, f4 in alt+f4 and I remapped f11 to play and pause media.

I do have fn functions on almost every f key, but nothing as important as pgup, pgdown, home or end! Those are screen controls, volume controls and stuff like that. But hey, I'm glad you're happy with your keyboard :)

@TheOct0 interesting story, my dad actually wanted to get me used to having the mouse left but my mom said nah dont
most things, especially writing, i can only do with left hand, i play the piano where i use both hands pretty equally, but for anything else i just have to use the left hand
when im eating, i have the fork in the right hand and knife in the left hand to cut off a piece of whatever im eating, then i actually swap the hands just so i can put the food into my mouth with the left hand

why did i write all this you probably dont even care but :/

@Supersebi3 I do care! Us lefties always do stuff our own ways, so I always find it interesting to hear how other ones do it.

For me, I play piano just like anyone else would, I play guitar like a lefty and cannot even make a sound as a right-handed. I play football as an ambidextrous, cut with scissors as an ambidextrous as well, and both my arms are equally strong. My leading eye is the right one, and I eat with my fork in the left hand at all times. Same goes for spoons.

Now I'm sure my comment is a lot less interesting than yours :P

@TheOct0 when i played the guitar, i played it "normally"
always cutting with left hand, getting in trouble everytime theres no lefty scissors arround
cant think of more stuff to mention anymore 🙈

@Supersebi3 Well lefty scissors are just scissors with reverse blades so you can see where you're cutting, just like rulers have inverted marks so that you can use your left hand to trace :)
(I'll be going to sleep now, it's 2AM, seeya around! And welcome to DevRant by the way :) )

@TheOct0 i know, but im so used to them that its really hard for me to work with normal scissors
    good night! (owo same timezone)

@Supersebi3 Well good night too then :P

@Supersebi3 lol for swapping hands while eating. I was taught at school to eat with fork on left hand and knife on right hand (as I'm right-handed), and no swapping is needed/allowed. I remember it being weird at first as I was used to eating with fork only, but it felt natural soon. When eating salad, it's fork only, though. (fork in your "strong" hand)

@electrineer i had actually eaten fork only for a pretty long time, that might be why

@TheOct0 I mouse with both left and right (Im a right handed person). When I use my left hand I have to mirror the buttons and, just like you, cross my hands.

@Supersebi3 the eating thing i do too. People always are confused when they see it.

@TheOct0 Im a righty but my weird quirks are somehow lefty things.

As I said before I mouse left once in a while but only since 2 years (after a long gaming session I needed my hands in a different position xD)

    @Codex404 Well you're the first right-handed person I've heard of that's swapping hands on a computer :0

I sometimes grab the mouse with my right hand because it's not my computer and I'm not gonna change the setup (since I don't cross my hands anymore) but I don't need to mirror the buttons :)
