So i’m jobless and looking for something new. I had three interviews today and i always mention i’m doing a self study on React.js atm.

However after this i also got asked how i want to develop myself in the future and i’m like: wtf? Are you even paying attention here?

Three interviews is a lot. Time for beer! Have a nice weekend!

    What if they assumed your self-studying something temporary?

    Well if I ask you how would you want to develop yourself in the future it obviously goes beyond your flavor of the week js framework.

    Do you see yourself working only with Javascript tech? Would you like to branch into something like machine learning? What about systems level development? What are your aspirations beyond front end js stuff? What languages are you interested in?

    That is more than likely what they want to hear from you.

    I would take a motherfucker that wants to go beyond what he has infront of him. Front end js is cool, but some crazy ninja that plays with microcontrollers or made a deep learning neural network play asteroids would get hired in a heartbeat over the dude that never went beyond web framework. And yes I do have control over who gets hired and not.

    Doing a self study doesn't really tell the other person what you see yourself doing in the future, the question points more to how you would fit into their ideology. I.e. if you fit into their plan for the future of their company.

    For example if you are going to an interview for a position as a frontend web dev, and they ask you this question; the answer they want to hear would be along the lines of;
    "I want to be making amizing looking, intuitive and interactive web applications"

    i kinda understand them.
    i would kinda follow up with the same question, as an internal joke to myseld, as a polite way of asking "yeah but do you also plan on learning something that's not a fad that will be dead in about 5 years?"
    =D =D
