Everyone's posting their PC's for wk119, but I thought I could do better.. think different, so to say :P
My electronics workbench.. cleaned up, I promise! Just that there's so much stuff that I have no idea where else to place it :')

And I wish I could post this BEFORE WanBLowS decided to shit itself again with one of those goddamn fucking Blue Screens of Dicksucking Shaftsystem! At least devRant UWP from @JS96 has the dignity to save the post just in case its host craps itself all over.. FUCK!!!

.. Anyway, high resolution counterpart of the image here: https://i.imgur.com/ZrJmMe0.jpg

There's a big like 50 inch "flat screen" (in a sense that it's old and thick as fuck) by the trash cans at my apartment.

Made me think of you, since you'd probably disassemble it and play with the parts lol

@Stuxnet gibe de panel plz _/\_
  • 9
@Condor If it's there after class tomorrow, I'm probably going to go bring it in and disassemble it myself. I'll keep you posted

@Stuxnet Sounds like a nice project! The most common issue in display panels is blown capacitors.. so be on the lookout for those if it doesn't power up after plugging it in. And if you want a thinner TV than that thing, the only thing that changed in recent years in those TV's is that nowadays the TV is just the panel that I was talking about earlier. The power supply, display controller, HDMI inputs and everything are nowadays often placed in another compartment like the soundbar. Meanwhile in older designs like that 50" one of yours it's often stuffed behind the panel. But technically you could move it out of there.

Your comment has reminded me of something by the way.. I've been wanting to snuffle around in these Kringwinkels (upcycling stores I guess?) for a while now.. since the electronics stuff they sell there is dirt cheap and I don't care if it works or not anyway. Because I can *make* it work :3

@Condor There's a surplus store nearby (branch if my uni) that sells old furniture, hardware, ect.

Probably going to try and get a few old PCs for parts and fucking around with. Maybe resell the parts for a little flip, if they're worth it.

My luck it'll basically all be shit or something like that. (All the computers I've uses have nice specs so idk what to expect lol

    @Stuxnet
I would take that! (I love taking apart stuff!)

    @Condor
When I return from my job at the factory Im going to clean my workbench and you are going fell envious about my GEAR :P

Im going to study electronic and computer engineering at my university soon so I have plans to buy even more gear :)
My uni starts in 1 month.

@Condor i'm a little put off by the triple power outlet, the one with a charger in it on your desk. Have you never had some metal parts fallen on it and you eager to grab them off of it? That'd shiver me timbers!

I like it! :) (Damn, just how much solder do you keep in stock? 😅)

I wish I could muster the motivation to clean up my workbench, but nope.
  • 2
    I'm so jealous...

What soldering iron do you use? (looks like a hakko?)

Does that oscilloscope kit actually work? 😅

And I love to cut in half can for the solder iron cleaner

    So much space...

@Condor I worked at the electronic dep. for a month 4 years long, of those Kringwinkels.

The first year, the second week I had to do all the work on my own. The second year I did it alone for a whole month... as a student worker... lmao

The pricing on that stuff is fucked up..

Also, all the good stuff, like TV's and PC's got fixed externally, so most of it ended up as trashed/IOK anyways.

I'd go back, doing that, just for peace of mind though.

    @Condor that's so sick!

@Stuxnet Sounds like a good idea. Old parts are actually quite hackable too! I'd totally build a couple of little servers out of it. Or if you can run Windows on it but isn't useful for anything else, just sell it out of course.

@Gregozor2121 Can't wait for it! I love seeing the benches of others. These things are rather uncommon here, so yeah.. change the pace with me! :D
(one condition though, no benches from the office :P this stuff is what I'm having at home so play fair, ok?)

@wannabee The power outlet? That's just plastic and the only metal prong sticking out is the ground rail. So the evil pixies dance only within the container. Needless to say, I opened it up just like everything else.. but eh, if I drop something on it I just take it off without thinking too much. No dangers there.
The thing that I'd be most wary about is if something drops on (or even into) the power supplies next to it. Because there is high voltage accessible to the human hand right now. It's one of the reasons why I'm a bit hesitant of getting a cat before I solve that stuff, replace the screw connectors with some wires directly soldered in, others with some banana sockets attached to it, and the whole thing enclosed in a wooden enclosure etc.

@nin0x03 Glad you like it! As for the solder, I once ran out of it sooner than I expected and had to wait months for new stuff to arrive from China, so I just bought 10 rolls to be sure. Moar solder, moar better! :3

@FMashiro It's a KSGER STM32. Works well, heats up in ~10 seconds usually and is indeed fully compatible with the Hakko T12 :)
Glad you like the energy drink can :3 I made it when I had a severe addiction for energy drinks, so yeah.. reflected on the bench :P
The oscilloscope kit is a DSO138 if memory serves me right.. a Chinese cheapie that I bought when I first got into scoping. Serves the purpose but it has quite a few limitations.. the UI sucks and I can't save the waveforms. So for a next scope I'm looking for a Hantek scope.

@xewl That's a really valuable insight actually, thanks for mentioning this! Would you deem strolling around in some of those stores for hackery worth it, given that the good electronics get sent back and trashed? Last time I was there, there were some really large home stereo speakers (you know, those big-ass towers.. 100W each at least) for only €10. Can't go wrong with that I guess? I mean, worst case I could just extract the drivers and even those would cost far more if bought new I think.
  • 2
@Condor I'm not @xewl but I recently bought some old DVD players for 3€ a piece, managed to salvage basically everything with the exception of a few components that were trashed by hot glue...

Not even China can deliver so many components for so little 😜

Although I still haven't figured out how the fuck I'm going to make the stepper motors and lazers work (ribbon cables and no part numbers)

One of them was a pioneer and the other some Russian brand, was interesting to see the difference in perceived quality.
  • 2
@FMashiro Oh, great deal! For the lasers and steppers, depends on the ribbon cable I guess. If it's carbon, straight into the trash with it! If it's copper or similar, I'd dick around with that a bit. Especially those steppers.. the lasers are a bit of a meh, you can buy those laser pointer module thingies for like 15 cents a pop anyway.

@Condor Not saying you couldn't make some nice deals, of course, but you need to know what you're looking for and have some luck. Most stuff just gets tested around a minute, so don't expect a 100y lifespan. Also, old electronics are sure to be doomed and will never pass your view, if you're not working for them.. most of it is definitely IOK, other stuff could be revived for €2,5 - I revived a 7.2 channel stereo/amplifier with boxes for 80,- back then.. - Hence, f'd up.

@FMashiro I'm glad you're not me, that would make it difficult to be you. Badumts

    OOOOO

    MMMM

    GGGG

Just got an erection out of this...

Btw we have the same fans and multimeter :p
  • 1
@GyroGearloose Glad you liked it :3 and yeah.. the multimeter, I'm using one from Synapse here. That particular rubber enclosure (condoms for multimeters?) is present in many meters though.. quite useful I have to say. I think that I've bought that one in an Aldi store earlier. And the fan is something that I bought at a dollar store long ago.. they've become a rarity in this area though, which really sucks.. they were rather well-built and quite hackable. And their stock blades could be reversed to blow in the other direction to suck the solder fumes away.. how cool is that? :D
  • 2
    It looks awesome,man!
  • 3
@Condor The TV is gone :(

Well the store will be open next week, so I'll probably stop by and see what I can find.

@Condor I've been using two for my DIY air conditioner hehe, but my place is a mess... Don't know how to place everything.

    Invested too much, to fast...

Had a time where my anti depressive as buying more stuff ... At least now I have all I need lol
  • 2
@GyroGearloose I was kinda worried about the whole buying spree as well to be honest.. here I usually just save up for the month and whenever I've got like 100 or 200 euros spare, I buy a bunch of stuff at once. Spreading out the purchases may help a bit with AliExpress member level, but meh. I usually just fill up the cart in that period and leave it there to also cultivate in my mind whether I really need it. But yeah, buying everything at once is one way to do it I guess :P now you've indeed got everything you need to dick around with electronics without having to buy much else, haha. Once you've got all the essentials, I'm pretty sure that the monthly cost will go down quite significantly as well. Eh, what it boils down to now is whether you like the art of putting together electronicals, right. If that's the case, the investment was totally worth it :)

@Condor Well hope so, At least I've been busy and my mind is occupied :p
