short: free/cheap music making software?

Can someone recommend me some neat, free (or affordable one-time payment) music composing software / Digital Audio Workstation? I don't have a MIDI keyboard, I'd do everything per mouse/computer keyboard input. Windows btw

    I use lmms on linux, no idea if it's available on Windows but if it is then I'd highly recommend it
    Otherwise, pirate a copy of fl studio

    @S-Homles-MD That is a professional paid software relaunching as free? Is that right? Thanks, I'll check it out!

    @j4cobgarby "cross-platform tool", Thanks - I'll look into it

    FL Studio. Only costs 100 bucks for the cheapest version, and you get free lifetime updates. Then all you have to do is search for free sound libraries and VST plug-ins, which there are a lot of.

    You can try sfxr it makes 8 bit sound effects developed for a game jam (ludum dare) though i guess it doesnt make game music it's something available if you need it, totally free to use too!

    Ardour or lmms works great, lmms is more like logics (that thing from Apple) while ardour is more a daw like Adobe audition or cuebase.

    REAPER is really cheap and can do pretty much anything you want.

    I'm a musician on the side and use it both for home production and live performance.

    It's also extensible as hell. I haven't delved into ReaScript much, but you can program a lot of custom behaviors if you're into that sort of thing. I'd also recommend getting the SWS extensions (free, open source) that give you more advanced functionality in REAPER.

    Hi, has anyone encountered this problem when releasing an app where they ask you to replace some of the music because it falls under copyright and needs to be removed?

    It often happens that you can't post your app if you've used music that falls under copyright. Nowadays there is very strict moderation on various sites, and they take all this into account. When I was developing games for android, our PM often grumbled about it. Try here to find royalty free music https://taketones.com/ such music can be used everywhere, even for commercial purposes, i.e. you can easily use this music when developing games.
