From time to time I think about getting an ergonomic keyboard rather than the standard flat I've always had. An this makes me realize I really don't know how to type properly, I think I don't use all the fingers I should.

I'm not a grandpa when typing but I think I should do better. And this kind of layouts scare me. I'm afraid of investing in one of these keyboards and never get use to it.

    What do you think?

@antorqs to be honest that scares me too, but with a week or 3 practice gradually, you'll get there. I got it yesterday in my hand, i really was typing like a senile grandpa. However today i'm already typing at a bit faster pace and i naturally find space and backspace button.

It's really a matter of retraining your hands, and prevent yourself from 'reaching out and overflex' fingers...

I already notice the advantage of much more relaxed hands!

I hope this makes you more productive.

Imho, there is too much space.. Where is the space key anyway?

    Such a WOW !

@bioDan the space key is at the right side, the thumb buttons below, third from the left, backspace is on the mirrored location at the left

@RantSomeWhere it's worth it every dollar since it's open... And built to last!

Ooh I like this. I’ve always wanted a keyboard that splits the spacebar into a space on the right and backspace on the left (because honestly why don’t they all do that??) and looking close this does that! I’m also used to hitting the command key on my mac with my thumb.

The biggest problem is the shift key placement. Countless years of touch-typing has taught me where to expect the shift keys on either side and I don’t know if I could retrain that. It’s just as second nature as typing now.

I would like this ergonomic keyboards a lot of they didn't tried to put F1-F12 buttons under the Fn combo.
I just don't like the hassle.

The entire keyboard is customizable, you can install other firmware like e.g. other keymappings. It's community carried software as well. Schematics, everything is open source. Have a look at https://community.keyboard.io for more amazeballz stuff!

This is really a free open source hardware dream come true, to me.

@NeatNerdPrime not enough space for space.. I dont wanna use microscope everytime i have to hit space... :/

@sladuled well in yoir case ypu could reprogram the keyboard to e.g. assign thz spacebutton to the big ones below. Or anywhere you wish.

@sladuled I bet if you actually look at where your thumb hits the spacebar, it's in the same spot every time.

Do space bars *really* need to be 5 keys wide?

@antorps I also was looking into getting an ergonomic keyboard such as an Ergodox but actually I started paying attention at how I type on a normal keyboard and actually learned to use all my fingers correctly. Now I type even faster than before and I have the correct wrist position on the keyboard. I would suggest to just learn to properly type on a normal keyboard first. Good Luck!

@Chewy8 I don't think there's really such a thing as the correct wrist position on a non-ergonomic keyboard. They're all pretty terrible for your wrist.

    The price tag though... 😭

@devios1 Yeah, it is actually slick on that spot.. 😂😂😂😇
But I use the left thumb.. soo...I'd be hitting up the ctrl & his friends (fat hands) all the time 😂😂😂😂😇

A lowkey benefit of a keyboard like that is it'll help with brain power too.

EDIT: Had to re-comment my grammar was crazy in original

    @ArcaneEye So it's a lie! I don't gotta type like I'm playing the piano

    The wood finish is 👌

I was recently considering the purchasing of a chorded keyboard. This wouldn't work for me.

I can say that after 2 hour usage you get used to the location of space and bckspace without hitting it's neughbours, also i use the 'tilde' key to get/hide my terminal (guake terminal) and it's location is surprisingly confusing since it is notnthe upper left button you otherwise hardly use. I got to go appointments now so back on the road but tonight I will try a new test, playing doom 2016 with the model 01, i expectnto have no wrist pain after extensively holocausting the demons from hell with an insane amount of guns & ammo , bunnyhopping, glorykilling, all that in a loud and sadistic laughter.

330USD is quite steep :( I'm writing on my 60€ Sharkoon Purewriter with blue low profile kail switches and I am quite happy with it
