C0D4681456yI woke up to a $1600 price tag for a new iPhone.
I could spend that on a decent gaming laptop and get more out of it then this thing 😔
Oh and before you say it... this is sent from my iPhone 6s -
@C0D4 does your gaming laptop create a talking poop emoji? No! Then go rant somewhere else 😂
Jokes aside as for quality and performance I never heard an iPhone user complain. But that price is just too much. I even find phones at 500$ to be expensive.
But again I'm a basic user I care about what's app emails and phone calls, so ya 500+ is just too much for these things lol -
C0D4681456y@gitpush I can live with paying up to $1k AUD for flagship level phones, but beyond that is getting to a point of where does it stop. It’s a phone, sandboxed and locked out from doing a lot of things standalone without being tied into the rest of the apple ecosystem or getting creative with a few apps.
As for build quality and performance, I can’t say much against them, they work, they last and if you don’t slam it into a brick wall you won’t need to replace the screen.
I’ve been looking at the pixel2/3 and Nokia6.1/8 but they don’t seem to have as good as build, and battery life.
Plus the reviews for Nokia getting boned by updates is off putting unless I go to a custom rom which I don’t particularly need or should really need to just use the thing.
Oh and for the emojis, Windows mixed reality probably will have that in the future 😅 -
C0D4681456y@Jilano I can’t seem to bring myself to trust a chinese phone, plus android updates have always left a sour taste in my mouth with phone carriers having the final say in how long a phone will continue to receive updates - if ever.
Now that’s not to say I completely trust apple, but better the devil I know right? -
One of the key takeaways is that Apple believes in longevity. My dads 2010 MacBook Air is still being supported and runs somewhat okay for what it is. You wouldn't think it only has 2GB ram. Also, they are still supporting the iPhone 5 where it's unheard off if any other manufacturer supports a phone anywhere near that long - 2 years tops.
You aren't meant to buy a new iPhone every year. They intended for you to keep it about 5 years. At it's end of life, they will recycle it for you - can even mail it in. -
perotti7986y@gitpush that's because iOS knows how to handle memory like a boss, but when it comes to the real challenges iOS starts giving out, not to mention battery lifespan
-
C0D4681456y@cursee I appreciate that Android One aims for the longevity of updates, but reviews of the Nokia’s using it seem to point to it being buggy at best.
Which is a concern since I use iOS betas without any hassle (minus the occasional battery drain between updates) -
@Jilano Would you be comfortable using it like a smartphone? (And a laptop still doesn’t fit in a pocket)
