Nvidia's drivers for Linux are absolute dog shit. Like how difficult is it to make something functional? I only have 2 monitors connected but the second one is causing the driver to crash, wtf.

Linux drivers for desktop don't really have priority because there is no relevant market share, and the Linux community has done a terrific job so far to ensure that this will not change.

You should be grateful Nvidia actually provides you drivers on Linux platform, the default nouveau driver was outdated since Bush presidency. Also Nvidia has negligible gain for providing Linux driver for GTX series, since the main industry lives on Windows...for HPC scientific cards they're doing an OK job for providing supports

Well I definitely agree with that Nvidia is garbage. They just love their proprietary bullshit.
Take a look at AMD for example. The open source driver is fantastic and actually developed by them with the proprietary driver only providing things like OpenCL.

@AnonymousMooCow it certainly is easier to do if you actually know how the hardware works you know. It's not like they just hand you all their internal documentation

How does the hardware work? I think the knowledge you need is all mentioned in Nvidia documents. Also Nvidia is basically acting like Apple in GPU market because they can afford doing that, but to be fair, they're really active and supportive in scientific computing, I get email updates about Nvidia conference and training on a monthly basis pretty much

@Gaveuxifort well the point of mentioning OpenCL was that this less important feature on a graphics card (not compute card, it's open source on those) is added in the proprietary driver to the open source driver. It simply provides extra features and not the whole graphics stack.

And well you said it - they kinda act like Apple which already tells you enough to know that they are total jerks.
