@linuxxx is your company still hiring by any chance?

@Condor Nope we're not currently ๐Ÿ˜ฅ. Good luck with the hunt though, will keep my eyes and ears open!
  • 3
@linuxxx thanks :) and yeah if something comes up in your company, please do let me know! From what I've read in your posts, it seems like a great environment to be in.
  • 1
@Condor Oh I don't expect that but I meant like I'll keep my eyes open in general ๐Ÿ˜…
  • 2
@linuxxx Oh, I see.. well yeah if some other company happens to be hiring sysadmins, a quick mention would be really helpful :D

I feel you problem. True, here in belgium if there are servers it’s in most cases windows 2012. Really fucked up. I feel like I’m one of the only ones in belgium that uses Linux servers. (Apart from you)
  • 1
They think it’s easier windows server because they use windows and don’t know what de fuck linux is. That’s just it.
  • 1
@sergeyBrin So it wasn't just bad luck in my searches.. that really sucks to be honest. I'm hard-pressed to find any Linux-oriented jobs (little to no experience with Windows Server here out of principle), so mind if I ask where you happen to be working (approx. location, province or something like that) and whether they're hiring?
  • 1
@Condor it’s our own company... That’s it. I ever worked on a windows server and just stopped it. I feel your pain. I’m 20km from brussels
  • 1
If we ever need someone I’ll get to you. I know someone who will be hiring a Linux sysadmin but only in 2019. And I won’t do it because I have enough to do.
  • 1
@sergeyBrin the need for a job here isn't really all that immediate, so if in 2019 that person's still hiring, I'd really appreciate a mention! :)
It'd be good for my own scheduling too, as currently I'm still learning electronics. And given how much time my own servers are already taking up (currently doing an overhaul from VM's to containers, but overall monitoring of updates etc can take its time too), my days are really filled up even without a job nowadays :')

@sergeyBrin @Condor well they are going to rebuild the whole thing. And asked if I know someone. I don’t know someone really good at this. So if you want I propose you, I have no one else I rely on this so I better support someone I know would be good to me than some stranger.
  • 2
@sergeyBrin That sounds great! I've got 4 years of experience with Linux systems like compiling kernels and other software from source (enabling me to make my own distribution if I wanted to), various servers (mail, IRC, web, DNS, etc) and am no stranger to the inner working of various distributions like Ubuntu, CentOS, Arch etc. Same thing with virtualization technologies like Qemu and containerization with LXC. Kubernetes has been on my interest list 2 years ago for my Raspberry Pi cluster, at the time it's got a bug which made me derail from that (I went with MPICH instead), but the conference talk at FOSDEM 2016 made it seem quite attractive due to its maintainability. Other skills should go on my CV I guess. Probably I'll have to work on that in the near future as well. Thanks in advance for recommending me to them!

@Condor nice list. They don’t really care what you use. They care if it works and you can do what you should with it for them it’s not use THAT! It’s looking for something you master and like to work with. If you use A or B or what da f. It’s good for them if you can master it and do what they need. Feel free to drop me an email at sergeybrin@tuta.io so I remind me of this and also add info, shit you wanna tell or the above comment so I can show them. I’ll see them next week and tell about you. Nederlands is goed trouwens ;)

Wish you all the best and am open to help you look for something. Though I think most chance for linux for BeNeLux is The netherlands
  • 1

  • 1
@sergeyBrin Geweldig! Ik zal dan nog even de mail opmaken, hopelijk vinden ze me een gepaste werknemer!
  • 1
@Condor mooi!

What are you looking for specifically? DevOps, SysOps? And what do you want to learn?
  • 0
@xalys mostly sysops, networking and Linux servers. DevOps.. meh, I'm quite a novice still when it comes to development. My field is mostly servers and electronics.
