It's common because many people lack other hobbies.
You work a normal 9-5 job everyday coding, then go home and code because you don't get to work on things you want to work on at your job.
But it'd definitely be an interesting read! -
duckWit56166yI'll start by saying burnout is a very nuanced topic.
Personally, a major sign of burnout that I see is self-destructive behavior in terms of one's profession. That's a wide ranging label, but specifically as an example, I'm talking about a deadline approaching and you can't bring yourself to even want to try to complete the task, and you don't. You can't bring yourself to do it despite the impending consequences. In fact, you are numb to the consequences altogether. I also classify it as a loss of previous professional joy that bleeds into areas of life outside of the profession.
In my opinion, an effective way to handle it is to use it to identify an imbalance in one's life. Maybe it's picking up a new hobby, maybe it's exercising, maybe it's education, maybe it's being more social, maybe it's relaxing more. Something is usually needed to give the mind a break from the regular beating it receives from work. It's a process that likely takes effort to overcome. -
I'm pretty burned out so if you have any questions I could try to answer them to the best of my abilities :)

@BarabasiB Well yea, but I'm moreso implying they don't have hobbies other than coding.
The people that coding is all they do in their free time and their job are the people I'm talking about.

Hey. I would like to do a research on developer burnout analyzing post from developer sites like Stackoverflow or devRant. I think it's getting a more and more common problem in the developer community. What do you think about it? Any ideas about how should i identify the symptoms from only programming related posts?
