Kind of disappointing that devrant rewards and attracts bot'esque accounts for exclusively re-posting facebook memes - with stickers.

Those accounts are even as bold to constantly spam everywhere "HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU TO GET THEM?" as if they are entitled to next day delivery, feels wasted and especially insulting to people that actually use and flourish the platform.

Not really great input nor constructive criticism, more a vent, because I know that it's the "maybe some of the shit will stick" idea - maybe some of those shit posters will turn to actual content creators on here or them being free advertisement to maybe less useless beings.

    hmm, thinking about it, i actually noticed quite a lof of 9gag, /r/funny, facebook style pictures here with some random emojii smileys as only description, i guess i will decrementate those from now (except i see them fit)

    @BurnoutDV can get you vote banned if you downvote with the only option actually affecting the score "offensive/spam" too much.

    @JoshBent so whats the point of the point (heh) system then. I assumed it works so that one can deduct points from content that is seen as unappropriate for reasons. While a picture isnt spam in itself, it seems to delute a platform like devrant (?)

    @MrWouter you're one of the ones flourishing the community by the looks of it, I mean those actual accounts that are green dot and just spam memes from Facebook and wherever.
  • 2
    @BurnoutDV to prevent a mass downvote spree like on Reddit.

    @JoshBent seems like an inherent weakpoint once reaching a critical mass either way.

    get spammed by facebookstyle meme pics or get briganded by people that have a personal grudge.

    or get both.

    which raises the need for human oversight, aka mods. Which then demands some ruleset, which makes the place less welcoming and also gives room to mods that counteract each other. Or get high on their power.

    tl;dr: humanity was a mistake, GOTO 1

    @BurnoutDV working on my own client where I'll skip the voting system entirely, out of sight out of mind :)

    What are you guys talking about here cos I simply don't get what's being discussed here. 🤔

    @suprano I am pretty sure I put it in very basic terms, not sure what's there not to understand? especially with the context explained.

    @JoshBent lmbo. I just got it. I guess it was too early on the train to read this rant.

    @suprano shit happens lol

    Sitting at about 7000 upvotes and a dozen or more posts with enough upvotes, and I have still never requested a sticker. If I ever want one, I will buy one. I personally think it's pretty shitty to demand free stuff from people who are paying out of their own pockets to keep devrant alive.

    @bahua even though I agree, I'd be a hypocrite, because I got mine, though back then I didn't know the behind the curtains, there was no devrant shop iirc and also have since always supported the platform with
    devrant++, there's ways to balance it, but creating an account purely for the stickers, letting it rip, splashing your facebook diarrhea all over and hoping one sticks, then proceeding to demand stickers is surreal.

    @JoshBent This was posted not THAT long after I posted about getting my stickers, so I feel like this has something to do with my post. Terribly sorry if something on my post irritated you man. Didn't mean to start anything, I was excited about the stickers and wanted to thank dfox and trogus

    @infernalempress just checked, you're also part of the people that are actual content creators and make the platform grow, so I am not sure why you're feeling addressed by posting exclusively Facebook memes.
  • 2
    @JoshBent I mean, this was posted not too long after I posted about my stickers. Just wanted to be sure you weren't talking about me
  • 2
    @infernalempress nah, the one that made me lose my marbles was a green dot, having -only- Facebook memes posted, with not one actual post.

    @JoshBent

    Maybe I'm missing some legitimate content, but filtering out posts tagged with "joke/meme" has all but eliminated these posts for me.

    But I suppose it does explain why I see users with only a couple months around here under their belt, with scores in the five figures.

    @bahua I do filter the tag too, but I just come across the mentioned comments/posts where they imply entitlement to stickers by asking every single sticker poster "WHEN DID YOU GET YOURS?" as soon as any of their shitposts hits the target score.
