English:
"I'm a liar."

Supposing I tell the truth, I'm not a liar. But that would mean that I am a liar, since I said that I am a liar.

Assuming I did not tell the truth, I would be a liar. But since I said the truth, I would not be a liar.
If one starts from the classical logic, one can make no logical statement. If one starts from the three-valued logic, I would say that "unknown" (u, ½

Is that true, what do you mean?

Stimmt das, was meinst du?

Being a liar does not mean every sentence you ever say is a lie. Thus, “I am a liar” is a completely fine statement. They could be a liar but telling the truth in this statement. You’re looking for: “this sentence is a lie”, or something.

@GMR516 I think being a liar does not mean that every sentence you say is wrong. Therefore, I think that sometimes a liar can tell the truth, but mostly lies (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki / Lie) Nevertheless, I agree with you that my statement above can lead to confusion. It is also just a simple example of the liar paradox.

Is this like the "set of all sets that do not contain themselves" thing?

    @d4ng3r0u5 No, I think that's another paradox: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

I think the Epimenides Paradox fits better ('All Cretans are lying' said the Cretan).

@Markk is there a reason why you type everything in two languages?

@Codex404 Yes, I'm from Germany and speak German for that. Since devRant is an international forum I translate everything again in English. Among other things, I leave the German text behind so that others who speak German need not translate it into German.

@Markk First, a dev who doesn't speak English has few options other than sticking his thumb into his butt. Second, that makes typing hard. Third, those who only type with one hand because of item 1) aren't on international platforms anyway. Fourth, thinking in German and then translating to English is a sure-fire way to bad English.

@Markk if you are aware devRant's international, why not use English only? I mean, the german members' english is probably the second best english after native speakers.

@Fast-Nop I know the developers who do not speak English have fewer chances. But I'm still in school and learning English. I think I speak English better in a few years than I do today.

@telephantasm Why I not only speak English has to do with the fact that others speak the German, do not need to translate the English text into German or read in their native language.

    Ugh. You're exhausting.

@Markk Well I'm German native speaker myself, but the really hard part is doing the switch. Given that 99.9% of the postings here are in English only, switching back to German is more distracting than helpful even for native German speakers. On top of that, that dual language stuff just adds annoying noise for the other participants.

I'd suggest to just continue in English. Remember that the most prominent foreign language is "bad English" anyway.
