    @Linux Hello Linux

    I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

    @Linux Ubuntu for now. Haven't really done much more with Linux than server stuff, so felt like taking it slow at the start :) Any better suggestions?

    @ScriptCoded

    I have been using it for over twenty years, and Ubuntu is more than good enough for me. Stable with excellent package support. I highly recommend switching away from the default desktop environment though.

    Here's a ++ for taking this bold step

    @ScriptCoded as of yesterday I started using pop os, and it's awesome. It's based on Ubuntu 18 and gnome.

    @bahua Neat :) What's up with the default then? And to which one?

    @geronimo @wowotek Hmm, anything special about it?

    @ScriptCoded extremely nice interface. Apart from that, its Ubuntu 18

    @ScriptCoded basically Ubuntu 18 but without bloatware, and junk. Just plain good interfaces. No useless complexity. And also build for developer (or by developer for developer) ready to use. Great for someone who want to be simple and quick start.

    @geronimo @wowotek Maybe worth checking out then :) But don't know if I feel like doing a distro change 😅 Just got all stuff set up

    @ScriptCoded make a dual boot...

    @geronimo Since we're running windows servers for some stuff at work, I'm already dual booting windows. And I've got like 15gb free. Sooooo

    @geronimo you can also check it out on YouTube.
    Full disclosure: I'm not being paid by System76. But I should 🤔

    @geronimo Oh, you were speaking to me! I'm check it out :)

    @ScriptCoded

    The default DE for 18.04 is gnome. Gnome is attractive and filled with lots of system options that make it look like it's, "the way," but it's actually quite heavy, and prone to stability issues.

    I recommend trying different DEs and window managers until you find one you like. I'm a huge fan of Openbox, so that's what I use.

    @bahua Thanks for the tip :)

    Farewell GNU+Linux, fuck you OSX.

    New company insists to give me a crapple turd.

    I'll miss you deeply loved Arch workstation.

    Pop OS looks nice.
  • 1
    @wowotek my problem is when you ask something on stack Overflow with a non-ubuntu Linux, they will kick you out and you question never see the day of light 🤦‍♂️
  • 2
    @sunfishcc Pop OS is basically ubuntu flavor. Theoretically you can do anything in ubuntu 18 aswell as in Pop OS.

    Maybe you can ask like you use Ubuntu.

    @wowotek tripped on “killer” wifi adapter from Alienware laptop. There’s no driver support for Linux. It was a nightmare
