Damn. Forgot Europe uses different plugs to the UK, and on a work trip in France. 3 days without charging the laptop...

@M1sf3t That's the European one. Our one is the 3 pin behemoth with square pins. Most technical people get very patriotic about our 3 pin UK plug.

@Jilano Had a quick look around but couldn't see one. Slightly reluctant to anyway though as I've got tons at home, tend to forget and buy one on most trips out here...

Get an adapter :) Although I wouldn't know where to find one in my country. I just know I tend to come across them occasionaly.

If you don't have an adapter - 2 nails (or really anything nail-like) and a decent amount of duct tape/plaster tape/electrical tape - that should do it :) It's a nasty DIY, but it gets the job done.

Of course that trick was not possible when I was visiting London. I have no idea how to adapt EU plug to those slits-in-the-wall :D

Make sure your charger is voltage compatible... (It think the whole europe is 230VAC)

@AlmondSauce as a Dutch person I also prefer the UK plug

@AlmondSauce look for "Office Depot" stores. They sell office supplies, and conveniently have international adapters (both ways).

A bit pricy, but I guess you won't mind to be able to use your laptop.

@AlmondSauce Assuming your co is putting you up in a hotel for 3 days, ask at reception. Hotels usually have adapters to lend.

@NoMad We got the train in, but good shout!

I've managed to steal one now from someone else attending the same course who has a spare, so all is good :D thanks guys!

@njpugh90 there are plugs that are just as safe

@electrineer like? I know the EU and US plugs are not that safe.

    EU plugs are relatively dangerous

@M1sf3t how are plugs without ground safer?

@Codex404 which EU plug are you talking about? CEE 7/4 in a CEE 7/3 is just as safe

@M1sf3t can't you touch live parts on a US plug when it's not fully inserted?

Literally any store like Tesco will sell an adapter. I live in the UK so I got used to the British plug (it is a very safe design, but massively outdated), but the EU plug (any version of it) is so much more convenient. I usually just travel with chargers that have interchangeable plugs, or spend that massive £/€/$ 1 on an adapter. Everything is dual-voltage these days.

@M1sf3t no, they are not as safe as the UK plugs.

@620hun why is it outdated? The way the inner cable management is done is great, also the latches in front of the socket are a great safety measure. Those in european sockets Ive to drill out because they are more dangerous than safe.. Ive once cut open my hand because of it.

At least in Germany you can get an adapter in every 1€-store/Kiosk/tech store/tourist store/...
