How do you compete and distinguish yourself as a freelancer from the other super-experienced freelancers? To me it seems almost impossible to get a foot in unless you're a niche expert, and even then.

Say you have 4 years dev experience. How the heck can you match up against someone with 15 years experience or someone with 5 years + several successful client projects? Or someone who's flawless at Full-Stack and you're just a mere beginner?

It seems to me you have to be super strong at selling yourself.

also you could just ask them. they got there somehow

I think everybody is human and perfection can only exist in the constraints you've been given. so in other words nobody's perfect. you can operate perfectly but you'll never achieve perfect results because you're still within the environment that is the world which is imperfect

we just make the best of what we can and sometimes that's so blindingly amazing to others. that's as good as you can get to perfect

find an environment that has a place for you and thrive I think

@jestdotty Thank you for your caring reply - I appreciate it.

I'm not immediately inclined to ask strangers/competition, but I could.

Sounds very Matrix, your explanation. Mhaha. ;p Nice.

Yes, even though I don't like it, I will probably have to find an environment that matches my current skills, or find one that asks me to push through and grow faster.

The answer is in the question.

Find something you're pretty interested in, is somewhat niche in the community (not every dev knows it) and become an expert in it. Maybe like SignalR or Redis or whatever. A tech that is in the middle of the road for widespread devs and widespread usage.

Then, apply to jobs where that's important. You might start off by looking for examples of tech in your area via job boards.

I was just excited about their projects with them (and doing some rough hypothesising during convo of course)
